Orchard Road might be the last place you think of when we say budget meals but these eight places all have food below $10 so you can still save money while you’re there.
We can’t possibly have a list of ‘cheap and good’ food in Singapore without mentioning our national dish. This hole-in-the-wall in Far East Plaza has been around for years and often makes it to ‘best chicken rice’ lists.
And we totally understand why as it’s one of our favourite places on the island too. You might be in Orchard Road (okay, technically Scotts Road but you know what we mean) but you’ll spend far less than $10 for a meal here – and you’ll leave very satisfied too.

Japanese ‘dumplings’ – which are made fresh by the chef as soon as you order it. You’ll get a range of gyozas priced between $4.80 and $9.30. Dishes like the seafood ramen ($9.80) and Japanese garlic fried rice ($5.80) are very affordable too.

Perfect for a pick-up-and-go meal, this is where you should go to find a range of – you guessed it – all-American hot dogs. Made with ‘the juiciest, most mouth-watering real natural meat sausages’, they are grilled to perfection, then served with a variation of condiments and accessories. Choices include classic onion, honey cheese duo and smoked weed (nothing illegal here, don’t worry) and most are under $10.

There are also a range of weekday lunch deals, all priced below $10.

Having been around since 1996, these guys sure know how to make their customers happy. Best known for their ayam panggang – you must have joined the queue at least once over the years at their stall at Plaza Singapura’s Kopitiam food court – their food is extremely delicious and the fact that you can get a good, filling meal below $10 is just a bonus.

Think you can’t get yummy fish n chips in the middle of the city for less than $10? You obviously haven’t been to Fisherios then. Breaded fish & chips are $7.90 and beer-battered fish & chips cost a dollar more. The portions are big too so you definitely won’t go back to work hungry.

‘Kushiyaki’ refers to grill skewered food, made up of seafood, poultry or vegetables. And you can get them cooked either with natural seasoning ingredients or with a specially-blended Tare sauce, which is made with mirin, sake, soy sauce and sugar.
The meats are grilled until cooked. Get a couple of skewers if you’re after something light or choose one of their bento boxes, which are priced less than $10, and are pretty filling since there’s both rice and meat.

No-frills Western food is the order of the day here. Most of the grilled chicken dishes are priced at $9.90 – each includes two side dishes too – plus all spaghetti options cost below $10 and even include a soup of the day. There are several burgers below $10 too and, if you feel like ‘splurging’, choose one of the fish meals, at $10.50, including two sides.
