  1. Madeleine’s Original Portuguese Egg Tarts

Look at the caramelised tops of these golden goodies! We heard that the pandan flavoured ones are really unique and delicious, but they always sell out fast.

3. Leung Sang Hong Kong Pastries

Another famous heritage brand from Hong Kong, the traditional pastries here are the ones to buy as gifts if you want to impress your granny, your parents or your in-laws. Their most well-known item is their egg tarts; creamy and buttery, these are the best a traditional recipe can offer.

4. Fancy Delight

Featuring some eclectic flavours such as chicken and mushroom, kiwi, strawberry and even durian, you’ll be spoilt for choice at Fancy Delight. The tall cup shape of the tarts also makes these special as the filling seems more generous.

Fancy Delight is at: #03-K21 Nex, 23 Serangoon Central.

7. Red Star Restaurant

One of our favourite dim sum restaurants, Red Star is an old school (they still use tradional push carts) many dim sum connoisseurs adore. They are also known for their very yummy egg tarts, which are flavourful and flaky creations not to be missed.

Red Star Restaurant is at: #07-23 54 Chin Swee Rd, Tel: 6532 5266.

8. Crystal Jade

Moist and buttery with a super creamy filling, we love that the Crystal Jade egg tarts are slightly smaller in size so you can pop the whole thing into your mouth. Warning: These are highly addictive!

9. Ng Kim Lee Confectionery

Another old school bakery to check out for their egg tarts. The diamond-shaped ones are moreish and have a nice bite thanks to the thicker pastry, and the traditional Portuguese ones are simply pure pleasure.

Ng Kim Lee Confectionery is at: 4 Chun Tin Road, Tel: 6466 3515.

10. KFC

Some egg tart purists might disagree with this choice, but we must say we were pleasantly surprised when we first tasted KFC’s egg tarts – they are really comparable to handmade ones in terms of taste and texture, and a fantastic choice if you do not want to travel far to satisfy your egg tart craving.

KFC is at: Various outlets.
