This hotpot restaurant in Chinatown boasts a secret blend of tongue-searing spices that originated from Sichuan in its fiery-hot Mala soup base and offers up to three levels of spiciness for its Mala hotpot.
For diners game to test the “Singapore’s spiciest Mala hotpot” claim, it is offering 50 per cent off its a la carte menu for a limited period.
Yue Long Men also has a selection of other soups, such as the classic clear broth, the signature sour fish version, and tomato and mushroom broths. Diners also get to customise individual hotpots.
There are more than 90 hotpot items ($8++ to $36++ for meat, $6++ to $48++ for seafood, $6++ to $16++ for hotpot favourites) to choose from, supplemented by an array of platters, condiments, fruit, ice cream and other desserts.
Hotpot items include premium US snow beef, black pork and fresh mullet slices, as well as more exotic choices such as pig throat and brain. The restaurant also serves dishes such as spicy century eggs ($8++), garlic pork belly ($10++), Yang Zhou fried rice ($10++) and dumplings ($8++ for six pieces).

The new three-storey restaurant and bar at Boat Quay focuses on the bright flavours of Asia and offers sharing plates and vegetarian, vegan, gluten-and dairy-free options.
Start with light bites and salads such as pork and chicken choi bao ($3.50++ a piece); blue swimmer crab and pomelo salad ($14++); and Vietnamese minced pork and chicken spring rolls with sweet and spicy dipping sauce (above, $12++ for three pieces).
Larger plates come in the form of coconut chicken salad with chilli, beans, peanuts and mango ($16++); crispy chilli beef with green mango salad and crispy noodles ($18++); and pan-seared 300g sirloin steak, sambal green beans and pho herbs ($35++).
Other favourites include freshly shucked oysters served with chilli-lime dressing, fresh lime and ponzu sauce and salmon roe.
Desserts include the chef’s interpretation of mango pudding with coconut sago and mango sorbet ($12++) and Valrhona chocolate and tofu mousse with chai-spiced shortbread and passionfruit curd ($14++).
For drinks, try Pimms Gardens ($18++ a glass), a housemade favourite of gin, liquor and ginger ale that takes two days to prepare.

Located on the third level of The Paragon, Halcyon & Crane serves cafe-style cuisine that is modern European with touches of Sichuanese flavours.
The breakfast menu offers bites such as Ham & Cheesy Egg Crepe ($19++) – a shout-out to Shanghai pancake wraps with Sichuan-style sausage; and King’s Chicken Hash Benedict ($21++), English muffins topped with gongbao chicken, sous-vide egg and cheddar cheese.
After 11.30am, the all-day dining menu takes centre stage. For a lighter meal, go for Smoked Tuna Tataki Salad ($21++), tossed with a dressing of spicy red oil vinaigrette and citrus. The Speciality Beef & Tomato Braised Rice ($28++) is doused in a rich broth concocted with Angus brisket, spices and herbs over 16 hours, given a more wholesome touch with a mix of kamut, buckwheat and barley grains.

Heartier dishes include Beetroot & Seafood Risotto ($32++), made with Japanese pearl rice and a touch of pickled chilli; and Baby Chicken Roulade ($32++), spring chicken marinated with honey fish sauce, five-spice powder and Sichuan pepper.
There are also small plates for sharing, desserts, smoothies and shakes, cocktails and takeaway salads, pastas and juices.

The Paradise Group has opened new outlets of Canton Paradise and LeNu Chef Wai’s Noodle Bar at Jem, located side by side. Known for its Hong Kong delights, Canton Paradise’s show kitchen allows diners to watch the chefs at work. The restaurant serves dishes from Shunde, a culinary city in Guangdong province reputed to be the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine.
A signature dish is the crispy roasted Irish duck (above, $30.80++ for half, $58.80++ for whole or $17.80++ for a regular serving), specially selected for the duck’s ideal proportion of fat versus meat.
Other signature dishes include the crispy BBQ honey pork bun ($6.20++) and handmade meatball congee ($8.80++), with velvety-smooth congee made of Japanese pearl and Thai jasmine rice.
LeNu is inspired by chef Wai’s travels to China and Taiwan, where noodles are regarded as a staple. Diners can find dishes such as braised wagyu beef noodles ($15.90++), where the hearty braised beef broth is cooked for 18 hours using beef marrow, bones and other premium ingredients.
There are also chef Wai’s dry noodles with anchovies ($7.50++) – la mian tossed with the chef’s special housemade sauce – and garoupa in pork bone soup with preserved vegetable noodle ($13.50++).

This new contemporary Japanese restaurant in Duxton Hill, which opens only for dinner, offers nigiri sushi and sashimi (above), hand-prepared sushi rolls and daily menu specials.
Ingredients are flown in from Japan and across the globe. One of the signature highlights is the Ikedukuri – live seafood sashimi, with choices of Boston lobster ($45++ for whole), abalone ($15++), geoduck sashimi ($45++ for quarter) and geoduck sushi and sashimi ($160++ for whole, $85++ for half).
Assorted live fish and sashimi are priced at $55++ (regular), $95++ (special) and $140++ (premium), while the assorted nigiri sushi can be ordered in the same categories at $30++ (five kinds), $50++ (seven) and $85++ (10) respectively. Also available are signature rolls ($18++ to $32++), such as Lobster California Roll, Mango Lobster Roll and Eel & Foie Gras Roll.
Among the mains are Wagyu A4 striploin steak 150g ($58++), miso marinated grilled black cod ($25++) and rice bowls ($22++ to $50++).
Three omakase sets – Special, Fresh Fish or Modern Style ($150++ to $200++) – come with various combinations of appetisers, salad, soup, sushi, mains, rice, Ikedukuri and dessert.
On the beverage menu is, among others, a selection of sake, native craft beer and champagnes. For dessert, there is Matcha Rare Cheese Cake ($10++).

In line with the tradition of omotenashi (hospitality), Japanese confectionery brand Yoku Moku’s new flagship store at Ion Orchard comes with a private buying room.
There is no minimum purchase required for the use of the room, where customers can browse, complete their transactions and rest while waiting for their orders to be packed.
Founder Noriichi Fujinawa created Yoku Moku butter cookies as a tribute to the Swedish town of Jokkmokk and launched the brand’s signature Cigare cookies in 1969. There are more than 160 stores in Japan and outlets can also be found in the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and India.
The cigar-shaped Cigare rolled butter cookies come in flavours such as Original ($16 nett for 10 pieces), Darjeeling & Earl Grey tea-infused Cigare Au The ($17 for eight pieces) and milk chocolate Cigare Au Chocolat ($19 for eight pieces).
The other butter cookies include Double Chocolat Au Lait ($31 for 22 pieces) and Double Chocolat Blanc ($31 for 22 pieces).
Yoku Moku also launched the exclusive Singapore Heritage Tin ($44 for 21 pieces), which has a cover designed like a Snakes & Ladders board game with icons such as the Merlion and Mount Fuji.

Chef-restaurateur Beppe De Vito’s new contemporary restaurant, Art, takes over its predecessor Osteria Art. The produce-driven menu consists of dishes like Veal Belly, Sweetbreads, Hedgehog Mushrooms and Gorgonzola ($42++), a four-hour slow-cooked veal, crisp fried sweetbreads with chamomile and ginger powder crumbs, cremizola, spice jus, pickled wild mushroom pesto and 20-year-old balsamic vinegar.
The Red Prawn, Foie Gras, Blood Orange and Seaweed ($28++) is a dish of Sicilian red prawn tartare that offers notes of citrus, olive oil, paprika, seaweed and black sesame.
The dessert menu features the Almond Magnum ($18++) – a half-Magnum held up by an edible ice-cream stick made of sable cookies, with layers of almond chocolate, almond sponge, dark chocolate ganache and raspberry heart encased in a dark chocolate coat.
On top of the a la carte menu, the restaurant also has a selection of tasting menus (three courses: $68++, five courses: $98++ to $198++). It also has a Power Lunch Menu ($38++) for those in the Central Business District.

Ramen Champion has opened a new brand, Teppan No Hoshi, at Bugis+, offering a variety of Osaka classics such as okonomiyaki, modanyaki (or modern-yaki), yakisoba and ramen and popular Japanese snacks.
The restaurant also serves a variety of side dishes (from $9.80) such as mentaiko tonpei yaki, ikayaki and buta kimchi. For its okonomiyaki (from $12.80), sliced cabbage, instead of the chopped version, is used for a crunchier texture.
The yakisoba (from $12.80) is topped with ingredients such as pork, beef, seafood or omelette. Go for the special flavour, which includes beef, pork and seafood.

The 45-seater is housed in a Peranakan-tiled shophouse in the Keong Saik dining enclave. Taking centre stage is the fully open kitchen where diners can watch chef Lim Yew Aun and his team prepare each dish.
The handmade pasta dishes offer gluten-free and vegetarian options as well as two seasonal meat and fish selections. They come in small ($15++ to $22++) and regular ($22++ to $34++) plates.
Highlights include Mafalde Pasta with maitake mushroom, cheese broth and truffle salsa; Saccheti Beetroot Pasta with sweet potato, pumpkin and aceto balsamico; and Papardelle Pasta with spinach, ragu and aged parmesan.
Among the starters ($9++ to $25++) are items such as Burratina, which has sea salt, Greek olive oil, burnt onion jam and grilled sourdough. Desserts ($13++ to $15++) include Traditional Tiramisu, Bittersweet Chocolate Budino Torte.

This restaurant is where families and friends can spend quality time together. There is no Wi-Fi, for one thing, so everyone will have to talk instead of looking at their phones. The place is wheelchair-friendly and has an open-plan layout with ample space to pull up a baby chair or join up tables.
Also, there is no kids’ menu – almost every dish can be shared with the little ones, such as Fish & Chips ($15++), Roast Spring Chicken (half a chicken, $18++), Truffle Fries tossed in parmigiano cheese ($10++) and Fried Chicken Drumlets ($13++).
The all-day menu also offers favourites such as Miso Salmon with poached vegetables ($18++, above), Pulled Pork Burger and fries ($15++) and Seafood Bouillabaisse ($15++). For dessert, try the Chocolate Dome, whose filling is changed regularly to surprise customers.

This rooftop lounge perched atop the restored iconic heritage building housing SO Sofitel Singapore offers glitzy cocktails and a ritzy decor.
The beverage menu reflects the evolution of the tropical cocktail and is categorised into three broad collections – Equatorial Classics (1930s to 1950s), such as Rum Runner ($22++), Corpse Reviver ($23++) and Three Dots & A Dash ($24++); Contemporary Classics (late 1990s to 2000s), like Greyhound’s Tooth ($22++) and Absinthe Colada ($26++); and Contemporary Equatorial (house signatures), with highlights including Tiki Time Bomb ($22++), Beet Me Up Scotty ($23++) and Maybe It’s Mapleine ($24++, above).
As for the pub grub and bar bites, there is a Relish menu of Chipotle Poppers, Jerk Chicken, Coco Prawns, Crispy Belly and Beef Po’Boy (from $12++) or all these in a Relish Platter ($40++).

Muyoo+ describes itself as Singapore’s first fresh bread and fruit tea concept. Bread-wise, it has more than 30 selections of Euro soft rolls. Each soft roll is hand-kneaded at Muyoo+’s kitchen daily.
One highlight is its Fresh Fruit Rainbow and Fairy Wand Series ($3.90 to $4.90 nett), a Euro soft-roll with cream cheese and fruit fillings topped with seasonal fruit such as strawberry (above), mango, green grapes, cherry or peach.
The Savoury Series ($5.90 each) includes Crabby, filled with fresh crabmeat and Italian cheddar cheese. Then get a fruit tea ($3.50 to $5.50; $1 for add-ons such as cheese cloud, rose cloud, brown sugar pearl and green tea jelly) to complete your meal.
