The fashion world has rekindled its love with this lustrous material.
It was one of the most popular fabrics back in the glamourous 70s up ‘till the 90s, and was frequently worn by the pop culture icons of those decades.
And now it’s back!

Fun fact: Did you know that the art of embroidery dates all the way back to the Middle Ages?
This traditional craft turned fashion trend may well have been the earliest moda to have ever existed.
In the modern world, embroidery is typically used by designers for their haute couture collections but in 2016, we’ve seen plenty of regular high street brands making use of the gorgeous art in their pieces.

3. Dramatic Denim
Embellishments, embroidery, destroyed or distressed, two-toned patches, asymmetrical cuts, (I could go on forever) – all of these were in abundance this year.
Apart from the different cuts and styles, denim tops, jackets and even accessories were also super well-loved.
Denim has never gone out of style, and we are sure this will continue into the year 2017.

Thanks to celebrities and top models like Rihanna, Alexa Chung, Miranda Kerr and Kendall Jenner (just to name a few), this ’90s-inspired necklace had quite the big fashion moment in 2016.
It’s easy to see the choker’s appeal: It’s easy to wear, doesn’t overwhelm your outfit, yet adds an insouciantly chic vibe to your outfit.

5. Slip Dresses
This intimates-inspired frock is the one trend that I miss the most from the ‘90s.
The legendary Kate Moss popularised it at a party back in 1993, when she was just 19.
This versatile piece has since taken on a multitude of forms – from short to long, with lace detailing, and even with ruffled hems.

6. Statement Earrings
This year saw the re-emergence of maximalism in fashion, which in turn has injected a new lease of life into the art of wearing eye-catching earrings.
Gone are the days of subtle twinkle and inconspicuous studs.
These larger than life earrings are now the top choice for fashionistas and social media influencers and will continue to be in 2017.

7. Off-Shoulder Anything
Showing off your cleavage seems to have taken on a backseat in 2016.
This year we celebrated what is said to be the most understated yet sexy part of a woman’s body — the clavicle.
Bare shoulders took centre stage on street style blogs and Instagram posts, and while the trend might have waned off a little, we are still going to keep it alive for the time being.
It’s flattering and combats hot-weather!

Thanks to the furry slides for Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma collection that sold out immediately, everyone seemed to jumped on the bandwagon and created their own iterations.
From affordable high street labels to luxury brands, everyone wanted a piece of Rihanna’s style.
It’s also our way of integrating a winter element into this sunny tropical island.
