Which Makeup Powder Should You Use

There are a myriad of powders available in the market, and if you’re confused about what each one does, read on to find out which powder you should get.

Translucent powder

Translucent powders are generally used to set make-up and control shine giving a matte finish. It’s very lightweight and is virtually invisible when applied.

Finishing powder

Finishing powers are usually white in colour. The powder is usually very fine, which doesn’t really settle into pore, giving skin a perfect finish.

Loose powder

Loose powders are basically powder foundation that comes in a jar. It typically comes in a similar shade to liquid foundation and provide buildable coverage.

Pressed powder

Pressed powder is suitable for touch ups when you’re on the go. The coverage varies from product to product, but it should be able to hide redness and slight imperfections.

Mineral powder

Mineral powder can come in both pressed and loose form and they’re made from tiny micro-particles that were once minerals deep in the depths of the earth. They often boast extra skin care benefits like anti-inflammatory properties and breathable coverage.

Which one should you use?

For fuller coverage…

The beauty of a powder foundation is you can gradually build it up for a total coverage without feeling heavy on the skin. Mineral foundation is great for building coverage as they are denser and more pigmented.

For oily skin…

A translucent powder will keep sebum at bay and help you makeup last longer. If you need coverage along with shine control, a matte pressed powder would work best for you.

For dry skin…

Powder tends to settle into fine lines on dry skin. Avoid accentuating dryness by using finely-milled powder or finishing powder, but only at the areas that are needed.

For ageing skin…

If pores and lines are your main concern, a finishing powder can help to blur them out. However, they can show up on flash photography, so be sure to blend properly.
