Who says eating clean has to be tasteless or difficult? These 10 cafes prove that it’s easy to eat clean without breaking the your calorie limit.
1. Grain Traders
They serve up wholesome food bowls with a mix of grains, proteins, and hot and cold veggies. Everything is roasted, grilled or braised so it’s healthy yet mouthwatering. You can even customize them if you like. It’s insanely popular with the working lunch crowd, and that says a lot about their food!
#01-01/02/03 CapitaGreen, 138 Market Street
2. Guac & Go
Guac$ Go’s salad’s surround our favourite superfood: avocado! And they’ve made it even yummier in the form of guacamole.
It’s no surprise that their bestseller is the Guacamonster; they also have a whole selection of interestingly assmbled salads like the Crunchy Mushroom or Smoked Duck Mango Guac salad.
32 Maxwell Road
2. Senate Coffee
By the folks behind one of our favourite cafes, The Populus Coffee & Food Co., this relatively new haunt serves sumptuous nutrient bowls that’ll convince you to hop onto the health food bandwagon if nothing else will.
Boring ol’ chicken thights have no business around here — tasty proteins are incorporated into the bowls, from braised beef cheek to teriyaki roasted cod and more.
1 Pickering Street
4. Red Baron
Can’t let go of local food? Try Red Baron’s Quinoa Goreng — a spin-pff of Nasi Goreng — using quinoa as a base and served with shrimps, chicken, chilli padi and a sunny side up egg with ika billis (fried anchovies).
Healthy meals mean we get a free pass for dessert right? Right. The French toast is a clear winner — eggy brioche doused in addictive gula melaka sauce.
Gillman Barracks, 45 Malan Road
5. DW Workshop
Even the most uninitiated of dieters would be instantly converted by the wholesome bowls of flavourful (we’re not kidding!) roasted vegetbles and tender, premium meats.
For the base, there’s basmati rice and quinoa for those looking for a healthier option.
41 Rochester Drive
6. The Lawn
What we love about this no-frills salad bar: their salads come with a generous portion of protein as well, from char-grilled shrimp to maple infused chicken to buttered parsley dory.
If you’re there for breakfast, they’ve also got homely fare like omelettes and grilled toast.
#01-07 Nanos, 31 Biopolis Way
A cosy cafe serving plant-based foods, can we say Afterglow is… rawesome?
Salads aside, even their heartier options are perfect for the health-conscious, from zucchini linguine to quinoa-strone soup.
Finally, indulge in their raw desserts like chocolate salted caramel fudge. You too, die-hard health freaks — healthy desserts do exist.
24 Keong Saik Road
For salads with an Asian twist, try Shinkansen. Named after Japan’s bullet train, Shinkansen aims to provide quick and healthy food.
These salads come with soba noodles, mixed grain sushi rice and other choices of grains, topped with your choice of protein like salmon sashimi, yakiniku steak and more.
9. Pimp My Salad
Aptly named, we reckon — “pimp” just about says it all.
From garam masala chickpeas to homemade guacamole (and about 30 other gourmet options!), go absolutely nuts customising your salad from scatch. Who said you can’t feast on salads?
#01-12, Pasarbella, Suntec City, 3 Temasek Blvd
RawBar prides themselves for their real food that’s wholesome, natural and delish.
More interestingly, have your salad in their homemade saj wrap (a type of flatbread common in the Middle Eastern countries); make it a meal and add on exciting sides like fattoush or hummus.
