The Marina Barrage is built at the confluence of five rivers, and is Singapore’s fifteenth reservoir – who would have thought this would ever be possible in a city location? Here you can run, stroll or for even more fun, fly a kite. On Sunday, the grass area is full of people enjoying picnics and being active.

4. Singapore SportsHub

In my opinion, this is the best kept secret in Singapore.  Daily activities are available, and the best news is they are all free.  Learn-To-Play, Free-To-Play and FIT-sessions are all-inclusive, in-house community programmes that are suitable for everyone (aged 7 years and above).

You can try learning a new sport with a certified coach on hand to help you, or join a group activity class.  Options vary by month, but you can expect to see basketball, beach volley, fencing and even lacrosse.  And if you are after fitness classes, these include bootcamps, Zumba, kickboxing, yoga, pilates and cardio blast.  Check out the latest schedule here.

And if the heat is just too much for you and you want to head indoors, chances are, you won’t have to stroll too far from home.  Now there are “Mall Workouts” you can attend – all before you do your grocery shopping.  ION, Jem, AMK Hub and United Square are just a few of the participating malls that will have you doing yoga, kickboxing, hot hula, Zumba and piloxing. Starbucks coffee stop afterwards is optional. The latest schedule and registration details are here.
