Ladies, you want to keep her clean, but using soap is NOT the way to do that. Yes, it’s okay to use mild soap on the outside but lathering your labia is a big NO NO. Soap creates a pH imbalance and leads to all kinds of infections. The vagina is self-cleaning so all you need to do is wash her with water.
If your vagina isn’t well-prepped before you do the dirty, you’re creating unnecessary friction and discomfort down there. A little bit of lube before intercourse is a sure-way to keep her happy and well lubricated so you don’t get any chafing.
You give yourself crazy bumps and ingrown hairs when you use that razor, but you do it anyway. Why? Shaving and waxing make your vagina feel smoother and look cleaner, but they also leave you more susceptible to bacteria and infection since there’s no barrier to protect your goodies.
Its best to go scentless when you are buying sanitary goods. They’re not only bad for you because they irritate the vagina’s sensitive skin, they’re also pretty much pointless (why do you need your blood clots to smell like roses?!).
Maybe you feel like you can make yourself super-clean downstairs by douching but you’re actually causing more damage than you think. Douching promotes the growth of bacteria and may increase your risk of pelvic inflammatory disease by transporting chlamydia or gonorrhea up into the uterus. Eww!
Some women get genital piercings to boost sexual pleasure. But if these piercings aren’t done properly, your chances of getting a bacterial infection, allergic reaction, or scarring are extremely high. You also expose yourself to hepatitis, STDs, and in extreme cases, HIV/AIDS.
This one is for you skinny jean lovers: Tight-fitting clothes might look good but constrictive outfits cut off airflow to your vagina making her sweat, creating friction and irritation down there – the perfect place for bacteria to thrive. Try to wear loose-fitting clothes especially if the weather is hot out.
Over time, your pelvic floor weakens from childbirth, weight gain, and aging. That’s where kegel exercises come in. Just like you work out the other muscles in your body, kegels are exercise for your insides. You can do them just about anywhere so don’t be shy about squeezing away…no one will even know!
