In this December issue, it’s fitting to celebrate breakout movie of the year Crazy Rich Asians, which has gone on to be the top-grossing rom-com in the past decade. Besides being a landmark movie for Asian representation, it has so much more meaning for us as it shines the spotlight on our little island, as well as showcases our amazing actors. So, we knew we had to close the year with a special tribute to its stars. Read about how beautiful cover star Gemma Chan, just like many Asians, argued with her parents with regards to her acting career, page 18; and don’t miss our very own Tan Kheng Hua, Janice Koh, Amy Cheng, Koh Chieng Mun and Selena Tan as they talk about their crazy year in “The Joy of Christmas”, page 30.
Ahhhhh Christmas… how it’s crept up on us. And if you’re as unprepared as I am, don’t panic. We’ve filled our pages with brilliant gift ideas for everyone on your list, including some gorgeous-yet-affordable jewellery for the precious women in your life, page 68. And we’ve also got you covered for all those year-end soirees and festivities. In “Ready, Set, Party”, page 62, you’ll find dresses, bags and shoes to get your glam on.
On the topic of glam, we thank all the gorgeous guests who joined us for our Great Women Of Our Time 2018 party, page 26. The initiative celebrates hardworking women like nurse clinician Rujia Ali Shahul Hameed, whom readers voted the Most Inspiring Woman. Rujia was filled with emotion and felt honoured to be recognised- but really, it was The Weekly’s honour to celebrate a woman with so much heart.
May you and yours have a Joyous Christmas. Get your copy of the December issue now!
