Wonderfully sweet and fluffy, these hot cross buns are delicious served warm, drizzled with maple syrup and fresh fruit. This dish makes a delicious breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 60 g butter
  • 4 hot cross buns, halved
  • Sliced bananas, to serve
  • Strawberries, to serve
  • Maple syrup, to serve

In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and vanilla. Dip hot cross buns into egg mixture, turning to coat.

Heat butter in a large frying pan on medium. Cook buns in two batches, 2 to 3 mins each side, until golden.

Serve with banana and strawberries. Drizzle with maple syrup.

TIP: If preferred, use fruit bread or brioche in place of hot cross buns.
