Home to a family of three, this 1,390sqf HDB maisonette apartment has a simple and neat design with a modern touch. The homeowners approached interior design firm Distinctidentity, requesting for an open-concept kitchen design that’s complete with a kitchen island. They also wanted a gathering space and a to enjoy natural light at the dining area.
Part of the $130,000 renovation, wardrobes were customised in the master bedroom. A walnut tone was chosen here to complement the overall colour palette throughout the home.
When it comes to this apartment home belonging to a young couple, a practical yet bold and modern aesthetic serves as the perfect canvas for showcasing art and statement pieces. In their search for an interior designer, they got to know Joey Khu, who helms his eponymous interior design studio. Say the homeowners: “One of the main things we wanted was an open-concept kitchen with a long table, as long as it’s possible.”

A complete overhaul turned this once-cluttered flat into a modern, practical space.
It helps when the client happens to be a friend who trusts you to design her home. “My friend left most of the design choices to me. That gave me plenty of room, literally, to play around with ideas. She co-owns the flat with her brother and sister-in-law, and the three wanted a modern space that suits their lifestyle – they enjoy having guests over and love entertaining,” says creative director Melvin Tan, a Singaporean who’s been running his own interior design agency, Hello Embryo based in Jakarta, for the past five years.
The bedroom has basic raw touches such as wood and cement for a restful environ. The only dramatic element is the row of gold-toned track lights on the ceiling.
Designed by principal designer Zhenwei Lai of JOW Architects, this 1,400 sqf HDB maisonette in Hougang is home to bachelorette Suelyn Lim. Drawn to textural materials, the homeowner and designer decided on create a contemporary-style home, dressed with these elements.
The master bedroom enjoys double volume ceiling space for a lofty ambience.
