Many condominiums and HDB apartments nowadays come fitted with bay windows that extend into the room and eat up precious floor space. If you’re facing a case of bay window blues, don’t fret – there are clever ways to work this plain-looking ledge to your advantage by converting it into a modern, space-saving and functional home feature!
Here are some creative ways to integrate the bay window into your decor and maximise space:
Give a boring ledge a pop of personality with quirky tile designs or something that suits your style. It adds decorative flair to your home and makes you more inclined to use it!
Sitting on a chair with a book is so passé. Lounge by the bay window instead by plumping up with cushions and adding seat padding to let you bask in the sunlight or enjoy the city lights.
Go for low cubbyhole cabinets, or tall display cabinets that slide, hide, or rotate. Especially useful for rooms without much of a view.
While not literally a storage, this homeowner jazzed up the area to make the bay window less of an eyesore by doubling it up as a display unit for her bag collection. She also added a built-in desk with drawers that can be used for working, doing makeup etc.
Got a good view from the bedroom? Extend the area and build a platform bed above it. A more functional approach would be to add storage facility under the bed extension.
Frame the bay window up to emphasise its depth and create a bolder design statement.
