On this week’s eat-out adventures, we’ve chosen to revisit a place famous for its pancakes, a new store selling icy sweets and a dinner place that serves up hearty American bbq and some surprising fusion fare. Come along…
First stop for brunch was a pancake place which generated a lot of fanfare thanks to its reputation for serving some of the best pancakes in New York City. We previously tried a variety of the signature fare at Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant when they first opened here, and the Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter and Wild Blueberries ($18) stood out for us. A third time trying this and it’s still as yummy. The Chicken & Waffles ($21) was another fave of ours, even though we know some people find it a little “heavy”; the trick is to share which we did. Do note that queues can get really crazy on weekends and public holidays, so be prepared to wait. But once you tuck into the food, you’ll be happy you waited!
Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant is at: 31 Purvis Street, tel: 6684 4845.
Brunch at Clinton St. was a super filling affair, so we had a light treat in the middle of the day between meals. It was a hot day, so perfect for some ice-cream. I SEE i SEE, a handcrafted ice pop brand from Hong Kong, just opened their first store in Singapore, and we went to check it out. The flavours are pretty exciting and it was hard to choose… but the ones which gave us an icy sugar rush were Earl Grey Pistachio, Cheesy Raspberry and Strawberry Hokkaido Milk (from $5.90 each). Refreshing and tangy, the popsicles also reminded us of younger days when we would suck on “mama store” versions.
I SEE I SEE is at: #B3-46 Somerset@313, 313 Orchard Road.
On to dinner: Dallas Restaurant & Bar‘s spanking new second outlet located at the Suntec City Sky Garden. We ordered the Crispy Pork Belly Tacos ($5) and some Jalapeño Croquettes ($15) for starters to prep our taste buds. The main highlight was the show-stopping Dallas Meat Platter ($70 for two / $130 for four), consisting of grilled Australian lamb cutlets, pork ribs in a BBQ sauce, rotisserie chicken and prime rib steak with roasted potatoes. A family can definitely share this whopper of a meal!
Dallas Restaurant & Bar is at: #03-302/303 Suntec City Sky Garden, 3 Temasek Boulevard, tel: 6333 4068.
