This super grain started gaining popularity in the recent years but quinoa has slowly made its way from the supermarket aisles to our beauty counters. Quinoa packs plenty of antioxidants, proteins, fatty acids and amino acids. Most skincare products that contain quinoa would usually list it as “hydrolyzed quinoa” and “quinoa-seed extract” – each has its own set of benefits.

Hydrolyzed quinoa, as its name suggests, is quinoa that’s been broken down by water and contains mainly proteins from the grain, making it great for hair care products. As hair is made up of 91 per cent protein, hydrolyzed quinoa is able to smooth out damaged hair strands and protect it against breakage.

Quinoa extract, on the other hand, contains antioxidants and proteins to boost collagen production and protect against free radical damage. It also contains vitamins which are supposed to inhibit pigmentation by preventing melanin production.
