Whether you’re there for the exciting live performances, exhilarating races or glamorous after-parties, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the adrenaline rush of Grand Prix weekend. But with these heart-pumping activities come meticulous planning on the style front. There are outfits to plan and makeup considerations that will take you from the podium to the bar (and beyond). After all, why put in all that effort if it’s going to melt away by midday?
To help your makeup last longer, make-up artist Marie Soh recommends prepping your skin well, having a good skincare routine and allowing the product to absorb.
“Use a good primer without too much silicone and set using loose powder and setting spray,” she explains. “It’s important that you press the loose powder into your skin and not just glide it over.”
Marie says you can apply your sheer formula the “lazy girl way” by just using your fingers and blending well. Her preferred method is to use a sponge and blot the product into the skin for a beautiful blended and natural finish.
“I like to layer on where I feel I need a bit more coverage,” she adds.
It’s also time to make the switch from heavy matte and powder formulas to heat-proof tinted products and cream formulas, as well as lip products that are subtle and moisturising.
She says selecting the best lightweight formula depends on your comfort level and preference. She personally likes “those that feel like nothing on my skin after applying”.
Beat the heat with these sheer formulas.
Replace matte silicon-based primer with hydrating primer
Try the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Radiance Primer SPF25PA++, from $40. A few swipes of well-placed moisturising primer will help lock in your makeup. This formula from Bobbi Brown is made with 85 per cent skincare ingredients such as red algae, liquorice root, french wheat and ginseng to fight environmental aggressors and brighten skin. It also contains SPF25PA++ for all-day sun protection.
Replace matte powder eyeshadow with a cream formula
Gucci Beauty Palette De Beaute Quatuor, $120, features four-part palettes for eyes, lips and cheeks. They are buildable colours that blend easily so you can layer them on for different looks and effects. All-day wear is possible with these three powder formulas, in both matte and satin finishes. And because the colours are combined with a cream formula, they warm up your eyes, lips and cheeks. The range comes in three different colour combinations – Summerina Brown, Rosa Nitida and Wild Bouquet.
Replace lipstick with lip tint
The Cle De Peau Shine Rouge collection, $80 each, features new technology as well as premium ingredients that result in a creamy texture and smooth finish. Its Rich Cream Formula and Ultra Enrichment Powder work together to hydrate and seal in moisture for up to eight hours. The collection comes in 24 shades and three finishes. The collection is inspired by the world’s tropical gardens so the vibrant shades are ideal for our sunny shores. Cream Rouge Matte (12 shades) gives you a velvet definition, Cream Rouge Shine (eight shades) is for lacquered lustre while Cream Rouge Sparkles (four shades) is for that extra glimmer to your day.
Replace foundation with tinted moisturiser
Chanel Beauty Les Beiges Water Fresh Complexion Touch, $107, is a lightweight formula that feels like a second skin, thanks to the new microfluidic formula that features pigments encapsulated in micro-droplets. It corrects and evens out complexion and keeps skin hydrated and protected throughout the day. The lightweight gel texture is composed of approximately 60% water, which gives your skin a unique, cooling sensation. Available in six shades.
Replace powder highlight with liquid luminiser
The brand’s bestselling glowy tinted sunscreen Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 40, $62, now has a new shade – Dawn. Use this for a pink pearly glow and keep your skin hydrated while priming it for makeup. Get an instant glow-up while protecting your skin from UV rays and infrared radiation. A hydration cocktail of hyaluronic acid, sea lavender and vitamin B5 boosts your skin’s water levels and leaves it feeling soft and supple. The two shades, Dawn and Sunrise, are suitable for various skin types. Or mix them for a personalised glow.
Replace powder blush with dewy cream blush
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, $38 is weightless and long-lasting. It also blends and builds beautifully, giving you a soft, healthy flush. The collection is available in 11 shades, with two new ones added recently: Worth – true rose, and Virtue – beige peach. All shades are available in matte or dewy finishes.
