1. Prep your skin
Before you apply eyeliner, make sure the eyelid is clean and sebum-free. To ensure this, dust a small amount of translucent powder to absorb any excess oil.

2. Choose a winning formula
Pick a long-wearing, waterproof eyeliner like Majolica Majorca Gel Liquid Liner, $22.90, and Shu Uemura Calligraph:Ink Liquid Liner, $58 for cartridge and applicator.

3. Add powder between layers
To create extra staying power for your liquid eyeliner, add matte translucent powder between two layers of eyeliner. Here’s what to do: After the first layer of liquid eyeliner has dried on your skin, dip asmall fluffy makeup brush in matte translucent powder and dust it over the eyeliner in short strokes. Then, add another layer of liquid eyeliner.

4. Use different eyeliner formulas
Begin by lining your eyes with a waterproof pencil eyeliner, and then add another layer of eyeliner but pick a gel or liquid eyeliner formula to help your eyeliner look strong and on point.
