#1 Neutrogena Deep Cleansing Oil Free Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes, $13.90.
We all know that taking off our makeup before bed is the most basic of beauty basics, but much like Mum badgering us to eat our veggies, the soundest advice often goes unheeded, right?
Enter this nifty Neutrogena baby. The palatially plush towelettes transform a tedious everyday chore into a relaxing me-time ritual by virtue of its skin-tinglingly sensuous two-ply texture, sort of like cashmere caressing your face.
Tried-and-tested vote of confidence: I’ve discovered that this swipe of two of this wipe does an ace job of clearing my complexion of loathsome lumps and bumps. Final verdict: After using this for a meticulous month or so, I’m happy to report that my skin is pretty much as poreless, porcelain and perfect as it can possibly get. (Shameless, I know.)
#2 Simple Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes, $13.90.
Amped up with an arsenal of makeup melters and moisture magnets like pro-vitamin B5, this budget buy drenches the desert of your dermis with moisture: Simply swipe on and wipe off for wobbly tofu skin. Use this as you would any cleanser and with some luck, your skin should be feeling supremely soft, pleasingly plump and pore-free.
If you’re a mixer-and-matcher when it comes to skincare, you’ll get a kick out of this top tip: Maximise the mileage out of your pricey cleansing oils by applying it with these cheap and cheerful wipes. What I like to do when grappling with glitter-heavy makeup is to grab a sheet and fold it into quarters before sprinkling it with my go-to cleansing oil. Press the wipe over the glitter-festooned area for about five seconds to loosen the adhesives, then sweep off in one deft, decisive stroke. Less product, less waste!
#3 Watsons Deep Cleansing Facial Cleansing Wipes, $3.90.
Best for purging pancake paint, this heavy-duty hard-hitter also boasts ravishing rose water and vitamin E emollients, both of which promise to work in tandem to scour off surface sludge for comfortably clean skin. I’ve found that the moisture magnets and acne alleviators in this drugstore darling also pacify parched skin and decongest pores at the same time.
And yes, it makes good on its promise of sopping up sebum, sunscreen and the day’s debris in one fell swoop, although topping up with a conventional cleanser is probably par for the course for budge-proof eyeshadow. That said, this perfectly purse-friendly option leaves my face delightfully dewy and primed for the potions and poultices to follow. Stash a pack or two in your travel makeup pouch!
#4 Garnier Gentle Make Up Remover Wipes, $9.90.
Shot through with a carefully calibrated blend of botanicals the likes of redness-reducing rose essence, this complexion-calming cleanser is superb for soothing sensitive skin. Another big beauty bonus: The product more than passes the smell test. Sweeping on a sheet of this subtly scented wipe – ravishingly romantic and redolent of roses, natch – is ridiculously relaxing, especially when it’s hot as blazes outside.
Results-wise, a month’s use appears to be bestowed upon me a noticeably brighter and incredibly incandescent visage, even when I’ve been pulling all-nighters in the office. Stash this for SOS use next to your bed for nights when you can’t be arsed to drag yourself to the bathroom for your standard six-step drill regime.
#5 Nivea Make Up Clear Cleansing Wipes, $9.50.
Quite possibly the best budget beauty buy for your money, this multi-tasking marvel of a cleansing wipe does a neat job of actually wiping out your warpaint. Fish one out of the packet and sweep it across your face and see it go straight to work at diminishing dullness and blackheads without leaving your face agonisingly taut and tense. (It’s alcohol-free and non-stripping, you see.)
Bonus points must go to the softness of the sheets: Massaging this into your mien at the end of an exhausting day of back-to-back meetings makes for a surprisingly sumptuous experience, particularly at this price point.
Tactile pleasure aside, the biggest plus has got to be the smooth-as-silk finish once you’re done caressing the contours of your face with this wipe. As for its efficacy, I can attest to its claims of melting away makeup and revving up the skin’s renewal process without rocking its natural pH balance. Nivea novices, check this out, stat!
Right, then. Keep a mascaraed eye out for these skin smoothers the next time you’re browsing the beauty aisles – and do me a favour by bookmarking this story for easy reference. Happy beauty shopping, and cheers to clearer (and cleaner) complexion!
