There are all sorts of beauty devices that have gone viral on platforms like TikTok. However, one particular product has piqued my interest more recently, and it’s none other than the crystal hair removal stone, or some would like to call it, the “hair eraser”. Much like how an eraser would work, this product works by removing your body hair just by rubbing the skin with it. But is it really that simple and is it better than shaving?

I decided to dip my toes into it and tried the product for myself, after having seen the advertisement on my feed for the past few weeks.

Of course, like many of us, I was sceptical about it. How could a stone simply remove hair so easily? Well, much to my surprise (and after trying it a few times), it’s safe to say that it did live up to my expectations. Well, sort of.

But before diving into my experience, here’s a rundown how it works.

How does it work?

Unlike shaving and waxing, the hair erasing tool boasts a “painless” and fuss-free solution for hair removal. Gone are the days when you have to sit on the shower floor while shaving your legs or even make your routine visit to the waxing salon. In fact, what’s great about this product is that you can easily bring it wherever you go. It’s compact, lightweight, and you can easily clean it by running it under water and storing it in a dry place.

The hair eraser is different from your usual hair removal tools as it makes the hair clump and breaks from the surface. What’s more, it also prevents razor bumps and ingrown hairs by shaving right at the surface level of the skin.

But that’s not all. At the same time, the hair eraser also helps to exfoliate your skin, revealing smoother, softer skin. Sounds too good to be true, right?

Does it work better for those with short or long body hair?

When I first tried the crystal hair removal stone, I was curious to find out if it works on all lengths of body hair. So when I tried it on my arms, where my body hair is a lot longer, I realised, that removing the hair required more effort, and my skin experienced some inflammation from rubbing the same spot too much, even when I did it gently. However, I would not recommend doing so because your skin getting inflamed is not supposed to be part of the procedure, and this may also lead to disruptions in the skin barrier, inflammation of the hair follicle and redness which may eventually lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

On the other hand, when I tried the crystal hair removal stone on my legs where my body hair was a lot shorter, I realised that removing the hair was such a breeze and it didn’t hurt one bit. My skin felt really soft and there were also no razor bumps. However, since this is a form of depilation, it only removes hair from the surface of the skin, so it’s only best if you’re looking for a short-term solution. Also when you’re using this product, it’s important that you apply a body lotion right after washing to help restore your skin’s moisture.

The verdict

There are a few pros and cons when it comes to using the crystal hair removal stone. First and foremost, what I like about this product is that it’s fuss-free and it doesn’t take up too much of your time removing your hair and you don’t have to worry much about cleaning up too. Of course, it’s also a more sustainable option as well because, unlike shavers, you can use this product over and over again.

I also find that my hair grows slower than with shaving, but of course, it’s nothing compared to waxing or doing an IPL. So as mentioned earlier, it’s worth trying if you’re looking for a short-term solution.

As for the cons, using the product can be quite abrasive to the skin, so I would not recommend it if you have very sensitive or dry skin. At times, I do feel that my skin feels pretty sore from rubbing the same area too, so it’s best if you use it when your body hair is shorter in length.

Overall, I understand the novelty of using the hair eraser. I have to admit that it really works but I’ll probably see myself using it to get rid of unwanted hair on areas like my legs and arms only, instead of using it on sensitive areas.

So was it worth trying? Definitely. But I would say everyone’s skin may react differently to the hair eraser, so if you’re willing to take the risk then this crystal hair removal stone might just be worth the shot.
