Look effortlessly elegant by adding this key runway accessory to your ensemble – a sophisticated black bow.
Adam Reed, Percy & Reed’s co-founder, says that the key to this look is simplicity. “The pony and texture of the hair should be simple. Smooth and add luminous shine with [hair oil], before finishing with hairspray. Tie it low with a round elastic so you achieve a tight, secure pony then simply tie a ribboned bow or an elastic leaving the ends loose,” he says.
Tip: Channel the ’90s by matching with a thin velvet ribbon around your neck!
Update the classic low ponytail by wrapping a sumptuous black bow around it – it’s an effortless way to go from office to dinner party! Team the look with a pair of large sparkly earrings and you’re good to go.
Another way to take the ponytail to the next level is with a simple bow barrette or hair clip just above it. Tres chic!
Or simply forgo the “bow” part and let the ribbon speak for itself. Tie a length of ribbon into a basic knot and instantly add interest to your overall ensemble.
If you’ve got short hair, or prefer putting your hair up, why not play it up with an oversized bow that immediately adds oomph to your outfit?
Whether worn super straight or naturally wavy, the blunt bob is a refreshing take on the choppier, shoulder-sweeping version of previous years.
Shunji Matsuo’s International Director, Sean Ng says, “This cut suits more face shapes, particularly round ones, as it helps sharpen the face. Add curls for a more fun and youthful look!”
It’s also versatile – you can wear it parted to one side…
…middle-parted…
…or even with choppy bangs!
Jazz it up with hair accessories! Here’s how to do it without looking like a schoolgirl.
Speaking of hair accessories, this retro item is definitely back in a big way with designers all over opting for the headband on the runways. Whether you prefer something more embellished or something simpler like a leather band, these statement headpieces can easily transform your look.
Sean advises, “[Headbands are] a quick and easy way to fix a bad hair day, especially when you are travelling or on holiday. However, wearing a hair band that does not fit your face shape will make you look worse. For instance, for round face shapes, it is wiser to wear a slightly wider hair band and set it back from your face, leaving some fringe to frame your face. And always try before buying.”
The models are D&G were decked out in crowns fit for royalty!
A headpiece can also add height and volume to your hair, and black is always a timeless choice.
Or add a pop of colour to your outfit with something that’s a bit more colourful!
Unlike the intricately woven braid buns and loops of last season, think youthful accent braids like cornrows swept back into a neat ponytail, micro braids and simple twisted plaits.
For this look, make a deep side part then twist to one side, leaving it loose so you get this voluminous effect. “Give your hair movement by blow-drying, and prep with hair oil to add shine and gloss,” says Adam.
It’s okay to make a bit of a mess instead of keeping it too utilitarian.
An accent braid down one side adds youthful charm!
Or keep really long hair in check with a simple plait to the side.
