There’s nothing quite as anticipated in the fashion industry as Pantone’s Colour of the Year. And this year, the crown lands on “Classic Blue 19-4052” — a familiar medium-to-deep hue reminiscent of Pepsi, vintage china and convent uniforms — and a departure from 2019’s Living Coral.
This is not the first blue pick from Pantone. The colour tastemaker kicked off this forecasting series in 2000 with “Cerulean Blue” and has since seen blue hues intermittently: Aqua Sky in 2003, Blue Turquoise in 2005 and Serenity in 2016. After 21 years of colour predictions, its yearly selection has become elemental in creative fields like fashion, beauty, marketing and technology, just to name a few.
While Classic Blue might look unassuming (perhaps even boring) at first, the elegant hue translates beautifully into fashion pieces. So here are our top 20 picks to cop for 2020.
Blazers are a great staple to dress up any look, even a simple T-shirt and jeans combo. This belted number is great for those who don’t like the boxy silhouette of blazers and prefer a cinched, hourglass look.
The contrast between elegant rose gold and the sophisticated deep blue colourway makes this timepiece a true stunner that’s great for work and play.
Instead of donning a restrictive tailored pant for work each day, opt for loose-fitting wide-legged trousers like these. They’re as formal and stylish and are more comfortable.
This ruffled number is great for those looking to hide extra pounds and those with petite bodies who want a fuller silhouette.
This isn’t like your regular knit dress. It comes with puffed shoulders that are very much on-trend. Finish with a dainty gold chain and strappy heels.
Black and nude heels should be in your repertoire by now. But if you’re looking to add a little pizzazz, go with this classic blue number that’s as versatile and fashionable.
This fun printed number is made extra special with its asymmetric cut. Much like a wrap dress, this iteration works well with virtually all body types and shapes.
For those who work in conservative offices and those who walk the modest fashion line, this midi dress would be a great addition to your wardrobe.
One-pieces are very much in trend and are great for those who don’t want to show too much skin. This design is also built with a belt to help cinch the waist.
This local creation features a slip dress cut with thicker bands for added security while its print trimming keeps its fresh and summery. Pair with wedge sandals to channel summer vibes.
We’re adding another wrap dress on the list because we truly love how versatile and universally flattering they are. You can wear them with boots for a grungy evening look.
Animal prints might be too flashy for some, but this deep blue colourway keeps it classy and wearable. Moreover, it can be worn in three ways – as a belt bag, crossbody or shoulder bag.
Made with water-resistant nylon, this bag is a perfect travel companion that can keep your wallet and mobile safe and dry from any sudden environmental changes.
This velvet bucket bag checks all the boxes of adding doses of cute while being office appropriate. We love the playful addition of the contrasting pink drawstring.
Mules are the ultimate convenient footwear that you can slip on and rush out the door. This pair has diamanté embellishments that add notches of stylish cachet.
These understated studs will complement any outfit and social event while the blue stones add an eye-catching pop of colour.
If you like to show off your personality through subtle jewellery choices, then this pair from Pandora is right up your alley. Wear them together for a trendy, mismatched look.
If earrings aren’t your cup of tea, opt for a dainty ring instead. This Monica Vinader design is available in sterling silver, gold and rose gold so pick one that catches your fancy. PS, we recommend getting a few and wear it stacked.
Else, if you like to make a statement with your arm bling, this chunky design is made with sodalite and moonstones, which are said to have healing and calming qualities.
Don’t forget about sunglasses too. They shield your peepers and can be another avenue for you to show off your styling prowess.
