The cat’s out of the bag.
First, it was Daphne Bridgerton’s (Phoebe Dynevor) love story with Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. Then it was the complex affair between the rakish Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) on season two.
Now the focus will shift to the budding romance between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Netflix has teased the news in the form of an ‘announcement’ by Lady Whistledown (the author of an anonymous gossip column in the Regency drama series, also later revealed to be Penelope) that “the upcoming season will follow none other than the budding relationship between Mr. Colin Bridgerton and Miss Penelope Featherington.”
This strays from Julia Quinn’s series of regency romance novels, on which the drama is based — the third book zones in Benedict Bridgerton’s love life, while the fourth is about Penelope.
In the finale of season two, Penelope overheard Colin, who she has been interested in for years, say that he would never consider courting her. But it seems like that less-than-stellar ending for Penelope is set to change.
It’s also likely that the steamy scenes that Bridgerton has come up to be known for will continue in the new season. When asked if she was ready to film sex scenes in an interview with E Online, she joked, she joked, “I’m gonna have to be!”
