Kevin Kwan makes a cameo
This one is a bit of a spoiler so if you haven’t seen the movie move along now!
The author of Crazy Rich Asians, Kevin Kwan, actually has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo during the “who is Rachel Chu?!” montage.
See if you can spot him when you watch the flick!
The cast are really close
On the first day they arrived in KL to start filming the movie, the studio arranged for all cast members to attend a dumpling making party.
The party served as an icebreaker and to learn the skill they’d need for the dumpling scene that makes up part of the film.
Henry Golding intially didn't want the role
You’ve probably heard that this is Henry Golding’s first Hollywood movie but did you know that he didn’t even want to audition for the role of Nick Young in the first place?
He told the media, “I was like, ‘OMG, [this role] is for someone else who is gonna bring their A-game, who’s a legitimate actor.’”
Henry was scouted by an accountant
An accountant told director Jon M. Chu about a “good-looking gentleman” she’d seen on a travel show, so he began stalking Henry on his social media accounts.
Henry was surprised when Chu started following him on Instagram and didn’t have a clue what it could mean.
Henry made a personal sacrifice for the role
Henry had to cut his honeymoon short after the studio required him and actress Constance Wu to fly out for a screen test.
The actor is married to the gorgeous Liv Lo, who is an accomplished media personality as well, and the duo were honeymooning in South Africa at the time.
There's more to Michelle Yeoh than meets the eye
Michelle Yeoh loaned “hefty” jewelry pieces from her own personal collection to the film. The acclaimed actress is in a long-term relationship with FIA boss Jean Todt who has no doubt gifted her with armloads of shiny gems.
We wonder which of her luxurious pieces made it to the big screen!
Some scenes were improvised
Awkwafina stated that Jon M. Chu really trusted all the actors on set and let them improvise some of the scenes, like the “bak bak b*tch” one between Rachel and Peik Lin.
That’s why you see Constance saying the line in the trailer but Awakwafina say it in the movie’s final cut.
The cast stay connected through Whatsapp
The entire cast and crew got along so incredibly well they created a WhatsApp group to stay in touch. #FriendshipGoals
Any guesses what they talk to each other about? We bet its flooded with photos of yummy food and of course, OOTDs.
Jon M. Chu knew the movie would be a watershed moment
Director Jon M. Chu said he didn’t realise how personally affected he’d be by the ground-breaking movie.
He said that he and the cast cried nearly every day on set when re-watching scenes. AWWW…
Awkwafina wanted to steal stuff on set
The comedian specifically said she wanted to steal the wig she had to wear in the movie, “You know why I wanted to take the wig? I wanted to grab it and throw it out the window.”
