Commonly eaten at reunion dinners for Chinese New Year, steamboats can also be enjoyed with friends and family just about any time of the year! Here are five places to try out:
Nan Hwa Chong’s Fish Head Steamboat stall has been around sing 1927 and they’re still going strong.
The little hawker stall operates in an unsuspecting coffee shop in Owen Road and serves up a mean umami broth that’s delicious.

For those who might not know, Mookata is a Thai-style barbeque steamboat where meat is grilled on a dome-shaped skillet with its juices dripping down into a steamboat soup moat surrounding it. While the meat cooks, the broth below becomes richer in flavour.
There are plenty of restaurants in Singapore offering Mookata steamboats but our favourite is definitely the Mookata Thai BBQ in East Coast Road.

There’s a reason Hai Di Lao always has such a long queue. Everyone seems to love it!
With soup bases like Sichuan spicy hotpot, tomato and mushroom, there’s something for everyone while you’re there.
Besides their wide array of steamboat ingredients, the restaurant also has manicure sessions while you wait, Play Doh for the little ones to play with and mini noodle-pulling performances for you to watch while you eat.

Japanese collagen hotpot has been gaining popularity here in Singapore and it’s not only beauty junkies who’ve been flocking there.
Tsukada Nojo uses chicken collagen imported from Japan to make their hot pots that all have soups of a creamy and rich consistency.
Besides the hot pot, there are other dishes you can try out like the fried chicken wings, deep fried mushrooms and more.
This venture by the well-loved Chinese restaurant, Imperial Treasure is an entirely separate restaurant dedicated to steamboat so you can be sure it’ll be great.
Choose from a diever selection of soup bases made daily from scratch and simmered for hours on the stove alone with only the freshest and finest ingredients. Choose from a range of seafood, meat and fresh vegetables.
