1. Read To Them From An Early Age

Before your child expresses his or her disinterest in books, try to read to your child starting at an early age.  Studies have shown that reading to kids from six months onwards can help them develop a better grasp of certain words.

2. Dramatise It

When reading to your little ones, don’t be afraid to go all out Drama Queen. That extra dose of flamboyance keeps it entertaining for the kids by bringing the characters to life. Remember to reinforce the proper pronunciation of certain words as well as the intonation in sentences.

3. Shared Reading

Try alternating between reading pages with your child. This helps to make sure that your child actively listens to the story. Choose texts that are engaging and prompt for further discussions. By taking turns, your child has ample opportunities to improve on their reading coherency and rate.

4. Tit-For-Tat

Implement this strategy – 30 mins of reading equals 30 mins of video games. Children are more motivated to read when they are promised a prize at the end of the activity. Likewise, if your child read three books within a week, celebrate their achievement by getting them something special.
