1. Don't hang out in a group of three...
… and definitely don’t take a picture in a group of three. It’s believed that the person in the middle will be the first to die. Besides, three is a pretty awkward number – and someone’s could be left out.
2. Always apologise before answering the call of nature outside
Not that you’ll ever need to pee in public since there are toilets everywhere here. But should you ever be, say, on a dog rescue mission in some Yio Chu Kang woodland or the car broke down in the middle of a lonely stretch of road, and you really need to go then it might be safer to say “sorry” before relieving yourself in the bushes.
3. Don't tell people your age
Ages that end with a ‘nine’ (19, 29, 39, etc.) are believed to be afflicted with more sickness and tragedy, and one of the ways you could avoid or lessen this is by keeping your age to yourself – at all times!
4. Don't whistle at night
You might just attract the attention of wandering spirits. It’s possible that whoever came up with this simply just wanted people to be quiet, but nonetheless it’s probably a good idea to save the whistling for the daytime,
5. Don't hang your clothes out to dry at night
We know there are lots of things we shouldn’t do at night, but this one sounds a bit much. Except that pontianaks (a female vampiric ghost in Malaysian and Indonesian folklore) apparently love chilling on clothes racks and bamboo poles with clothes that have been left to dry overnight…
6. Don't toast someone without looking them in the eye
The consequence is supposedly seven years of terrible sex. Not worth the risk at all, if you ask us!
7. Don't consume soy sauce or seafood when you have a cut or wound
The healing will be impeded and you may even be left with a horrible scar. This is probably something you should pay attention to especially if you have a cut on your face.
