The Singapore Writers Festival is making its annual return this November with an engaging slew of programmes for you language and book lovers. One of Asia’s premier literary events, expect insightful discussions, workshops, masterclasses and performances for yourself; and for the kids, look out for storytelling sessions and short film screenings you would want to be there for too. Notable mentions include veteran storyteller R Chandran, and the film adaptation of Room On The Broom, which has been nominated for the Oscars.

Bond over your family’s shared love of animals at Gardens By The Bay, which is hosting an exclusive sneak peek of BBC Earth’s new wildlife series, Seven Worlds, One Planet. Presented by none other than Sir David Attenborough, the series takes you through the seven continents and the unique wildlife stories from each one. The once-in-a-lifetime event takes place at the Supertree Grove, and series producer Scott Alexander will be there to take you behind the scenes.

Environmentalists assemble! The fifth edition of The Conscious Festival by Green Is The New Black is back, and we have to say this year they’ve got everything you would ever want in an eco-friendly festival. Grab your tote bags and gather at the Marketplace, where more than 100 brands boast their love for the planet in the form of beauty and health products – and take some time to bask in art and performances by local bands with the green culture at practice.
Those with a thirst to learn more may even want to check out the talks by various woke speakers, like Christine Amour-Levar, the founder and CEO of HER Planet Earth and Nicole Yau, a workplace, community and wellness transformation change management consultant. Your kids can even learn from the youngest speaker Arnav Vupputur Chetty, a 6th grade environmentalist!

Comprising of a whopping 27 movies (both classic and new), the Embassy of France in Singapore will be organising its 35th edition of the French Film Festival early November this year. With such a huge selection of films to go through, pick your genre according to your tastes – it goes from comedy, documentary, romance all the way to animated films!
Head down for one or two movies (if that’s even enough) across its limited two week period for a taste of France especially if you’re not flying anywhere this year end. Animated picks this year include Ballerina, Yellowbird, The King and the Mockingbird and Minuscule, Valley of the Lost Ants.

In a tiny country like Singapore, music festivals can be hard to come by, especially for Korean artistes (where they can easily earn as much with a solo concert). But lo and behold, there will be one happening in Singapore this November! – and we’re actually their first stop in Asia.
If you’ve been swept up by the Hallyu wave a decade ago, make sure you don’t miss out on KAMP Singapore on 9 and 10 November as Super Junior takes the stage among other fresh and groundbreaking artistes like GFriend, Ha Sung Woon and Momoland. The much awaited yearly hype is back – Bangkok’s flea market Artbox is here yet again, this time with more aesthetic spots for you on top of its already aesthetic food and drinks. In fact, this year’s theme is Eden – so prepare yourself for some visually captivating and ethereal sights at The Singapore Turf Club!
What’s especially different this year is its first ever lenticular artwork, a 12-metre tall vertical container made by projection mapping. Sitting in the front of the venue to welcome your arrival, the Instagrammable floral backdrop only hints at what more you can experience within its premises – from artsy workshops, street food all the way to retail booths with items you can’t usually get your hands on in Singapore.

November is truly a month for the bookworms and a reminder for us to support local. Here’s another one for the young readers as Make Animals Great Again and Other Creature Campaigns by local author Maureen Yeo launches – a sequel to The Great Singapore Poo Sale and Other Beastly Business, which sold out on its first print run.
Looking at what happens when the animals have to elect a new leader, this whimsical story featuring the wildlife of Singapore will be celebrated by a performance of an excerpt from the book and an animal trivia quiz where your kids can win special treats. Following the Sesame Street Halloween show at Universal Studios Singapore in October, the longtime favourite furry monsters of both children and adults are not holding back on their 50th anniversary and are having their first ever run in Asia this year. Held at Our Tampines Hub, the day of the run promises more than just running – including Sesame Street themed carnival games, quizzes and photo opportunities with the Sesame Street characters!
