1. Fann Wong
Fann Wong started her Mother’s Day morning waking up to a heartfelt video made by her almost five-year-old son, Zed Lee, whom she has with husband, fellow actor Christopher Lee. The clip included past photos of the mother and son, a clip from Pixar’s Finding Dory as well as a voiceover from Zed who wished Fann a “Happy Mother’s Day Mama, I love you” and “I’m happy to give you candy. All the candy is in my house.” Lol! Fann responded to his sweet gesture with a message that ended with “I’m so blessed to be your mom”. Aww.
2. Jamie Yeo
It was a day of double celebrations in deejay-host Jamie Yeo’s home. Not only was it Mother’s Day, it was also Rupert’s — Jamie’s husband — birthday. The happy family of four celebrated with a delicious six-course lunch at Pollen in Gardens By The Bay and finished with a delectable chocolate cake at home that she posted on her Instagram Stories. Rupert shared a dedication on his social media account (@urbanfarmerly) too, saying “Happy #mothersday — what you do, and all do, for these rascals is staggering…thank you 🙏❤️! Sorry for stealing your thunder by getting a year older and grumpier!” #couplegoals
3. Huang Biren
Huang Biren might have played a stern but tough-love mother on Tiger Mum (2015), but she had only love and affection for the mothers in her family. She posted a collage on Instagram of the mothers in her life and shared a Chinese saying that likened having an elder figure in the house as having a treasure, before mentioning how fortunate and blessed she is to have three maternal figures in her life.
4. Kate Pang
Kate Pang took a slightly different approach when it came to her Mother’s Day dedication. She shared an emotional message to her two children and thanked them for being her children, for being so patient and loving despite her shortcomings, for being her biggest, most ardent fans and for allowing her to celebrate the meaningful day. Kate, who shares her kids with husband actor Andie Chen, also expressed how she’s willing to give up her life in exchange for her children’s happiness, because they’re a blessing to her and the world. We’re not crying, you are.
5. Zoe Tay
Zoe Tay might have been working on Mother’s Day but she didn’t forget to post a lovely tribute to her mother on Instagram, with Zoe herself carrying her son in the background of the photo. She thanked her mother for her selfless act of love raising Zoe and her five siblings, which included getting up early to ensure that breakfast was on the table before they headed off to work and that every meal was delicious and filling, all without complaints. Her immense love and sacrifice is their blessing, she said, adding that it pains her to see her mum with a head full of white hair. “You’re the best mum ever,” she added. Couldn’t agree more.
6. Vivian Lai
Posting a series of photos that included her two daughters and mother, Vivian Lai’s message on Mother’s Day was short and sweet. She related her thoughts and feelings of becoming a mother after giving birth, pointing out that as a mother, she is not only a companion to her children. Her children in turn, are her companions as well, and she’s no longer lonely with them around. Vivian also urged everyone to take the opportunity and express their affection to their own mothers.
7. Jaime Teo
Former Miss Singapore Universe-turned-actress-turned-fitness-buff Jaime Teo posted a video of her and nine-year-old daughter Renee playing the guitar and ukulele as they sang along to the nursery rhyme, Row, Row, Row Your Boat. It was a short and sweet rendition, but showed how close the pair are. Plus, they got to bond on this special day. We approve.
8. Michelle Chia
Fresh-faced beauty Michelle Chia posted a selfie of her and her mother, both dressed simply in white while looking young and ethereal. Michelle added: “Thank you for being a strict mom when I was growing up, and yet so open minded to give me so much freedom to make my own decisions. Your guidance made me who I am today. Love you!” We can see where Michelle gets her beauty from.
9. Joanne Peh
Joanne Peh was “pleasantly surprised” with a handmade gift by her two children on the morning of Mother’s Day, adding that her daughter “usually can’t keep surprises”. The card featured four stalks of flowers that have been painstakingly painted by the children, with the help of their nanny. Joanne’s joy is clear as she is seen grinning from ear to ear while presenting the pretty gift. How sweet.
10. Quan Yifong
Eleanor Lee might be working hard trying to carve a niche as an actress in China, but her mother Quan Yifong is cheering her on from Singapore. Sharing images from a stylised photoshoot the two had participated in, she joked that they look so similar that they could be mistaken as twin sister. She added that although Yifong herself is not famous in China, the Chinese people might, in a brief moment, mistake her as superstar Fan Bingbing in the photos.
11. Diana Ser
Mothers are more than just parents — that was the message that Diana Ser was trying to emphasise in her Mother’s Day message. She posted a 2012 photo of herself giving the commencement speech at her alma mater, where she spoke about how she saw “career and family as pieces in life’s patchwork”. She added: “Marriage, parenthood and career need not be a zero sum game.
Much as I love my kids, I do not define myself solely in terms of them. Mothers can be so much more than Mamas.” Respect.
12. Nadya Hutagalung
Our May cover girl, environmentalist Nadya Huatgalung, got us all misty-eyed with her Mother’s Day tribute. She shared on Instagram: “Grateful beyond words for the blessings I have allowed myself to receive not just today but more and more frequently. Only when we are open and surrender to the possiblity that the universe is on our side will she open up and share her treasures with you. I’m grateful for my mother and her trust in me. Our relationship was an unconventional one but it worked for us. I’m grateful for 3 incredible children. We may not all be together in one place right now but I’m so proud of each of you and your individual strengths, talents, growth & curiosity. It’s because of my mum and my kids that I do what I do.” Awww!
