Adding dyes to food makes it look appealing and whimsical but artificial food colouring bought off the supermarket shelves are chock full of chemicals and just plain bad for your overall health.

In fact, these dyes have been linked to allergic reactions, hyperactivity in children, and even cancer. So much so that some countries have banned the use of certain food dyes that have been deemed to be carcinogenic. But there are many others that are still available for use in the food manufacturing process and while consumers are waking up tot the potential dangers of artificial food colouring, the industry remains fairly unregulated.

The alternative is much easier: Make your own all natural food dyes at home! Not only do you know exactly what is going into your food, fruits and vegetables have a fairly strong pigment making them perfect for colouring your treats.
