Even if you’re not a fan of Korean dramas — no judgment there! — you’ve surely heard of Korean beauty products and how after a certain popular drama has aired, beauty junkies everywhere rush to find out and purchase the beauty products used.
So here, we’ve compiled a list of the lipsticks used by different Korean actresses in various dramas over the years:
As Seen On: Park Bo Young in Oh My Ghost, 2015
Bo Young used several Lancôme products in Oh My Ghost, including its Blanc Expert Cushion Compact (below) and Grandiose mascara. The cushion’s limited edition rose petal case went on to become really popular too!
However, fans were more interested in her sheer coral lipstick shade and her adorable bear-shaped mirror. The lipstick is infused with rose de muscat oil which hydrates and rejuvenates dry lips.
As seen on: Shin Min Ah in Oh My Venus, 2015 and Kim Tae-Hee in Yong-Pal, 2015
Korean brand, O Hui rose to fame after their Rouge Real lipsticks were used on the popular television show, Oh My Venus
Actress Shin Min Ah (above) used its Swing Pink shade in one scene and it practically caused the shade to sell out in Korea.
In another show called Yong-Pal, actress Kim Tae-Hee (and Rain‘s wife!) popularised the W10 Pink Prologue shade when it was applied on her for one scene.
As seen on: Park Shin Hye in Pinocchio, 2014
Before Mamonde was made available in Singapore, we used to lust over Park Shin Hye’s lipstick shades in her show, Pinocchio.
Now, thankfully, Mamonde is available in Singapore and you can get your hands on the lipsticks she’s used!
As seen on: Song Hye Kyo in Descendants of the Sun, 2016
Thanks to Song Hye Kyo swiping on Laneige’s Two Tone lip bar in one scene in the show, the brand’s lipstick sold out on Chinese e-commerce site, 11th Street.
Hye Kyo is said to use the #11 shade in the show. Besides lipstick, Hye Kyo too, used a range of different products from Laneige including its cushion foundation.
Want to recreate her look in real life? Laneige has even created a video series for fans.
As seen on: Ji Sung on Kill Me, Heal Me, 2015
Ji Sung might not be a woman but the lipstick he wore (while playing a “woman”) sold out instantly. The Hera Sheer Holic Pop Tint in #1 Marilyn Pink sold out so quickly that Korean fans were trying to buy it online. The lipstick has since been called the Yona Tint — thanks to Ji Sung’s character’s name.
As seen on: Ha Ji Won in That Time I Loved You, 7000 Days, 2015
It might not be a Korean brand but Georgia Armani’s popularity definitely grew when Ha Ji Won wore their Ecstasy Lacquer lipstick on her show.
As seen on: Jun Ji Hyun in Legend Of The Blue Sea, 2016
The show, in which Ji Hyun plays a mermaid, was so big and popular in Korea that fans kept trying to figure out the brand and shade of lipstick that the actress wore.
So, when Allure Korea finally revealed the exact shade (which turned out to be a mixture of two colours), fans flocked to purchase it and the shades sold out immediately.
As seen on: Yoon Eun Hye in Missing You, 2012
NARS’ Schiap lipstick is one of the brand’s most iconic colours but it got even more popular in Korea once Eun Hye wore it in her show, Missing You.
The bright hot pink shade soon had a wait list consisting of over 2,000 people after the show aired.
As seen on: Jung Ryeon Won in Bubblegum, 2015 and Jun Ji Hyun in My Love From Another Star, 2014
Both YSL shades sold out when they were used in their respective television shows. A fun fact though, producers of My Love From Another Star have actually said that Ji Hyun’s (above) lip look was a result of two lip colours from IOPE, but fans speculated that it was a YSL shade and it sold out immediately.
As seen on: Go Joon Hee in She Was Pretty, 2015
Besides her pixie hair cut, Joon Hee also made Shu Uemura’s lipsticks famous when she wore them on her show, She Was Pretty.
The starlet also shot several ads for the brand (above).
