We all know how red is an auspicious colour for the Lunar New Year. So, if you’re looking to up your huat game and look good while you’re at it, here are some brightly-coloured red lipsticks to consider getting before they’re all sold out.
The shu uemura shade RD163 is specially formulated to suit a wide variety of Asian skin tones. The Unlimited Supreme Matte gives lips a gorgeous matte texture without drying skin out.
Let’s start with what could be, the brightest of the lot.
Kat Von D recently released a range of Everlasting Glimmer Veil lipsticks that, well, are really shiny and bold. The lipstick is said to last for up to 24-hours. While the glittery layer might eventually rub off from all the feasting you’ll be doing, the colour payoff is actually pretty subtle and looks really nice on lips.
If that’s you’re a little more daring with your makeup, we recommend trying this lipstick in Dazzle — it’s the only red shade.
Creamy, vivid and luxurious. The Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick glides on lips smoothly and helps it stay hydrated.
Another matte lipstick, the shade Elson is a blue-red which helps your teeth appear whiter and brighter. Time to flash those pearly whites!
The texture of the Shiseido VisionAiry Gel Lipstick is unlike most lipsticks we’ve tried. It’s soft, glides on with an almost whipped mousse texture, and feels like nothing on your lips.
The last we checked, five out of the 16 shades available on Sephora online are sold out so this Lipstensity range from MAC is pretty popular!
We’re suckers for the Marsala shade (left) that’s got a slightly plum-like hue. If you’re going after something a little redder, opt for Mulling Spices (right) — it’s brighter and definitely very eye-catching.
At $28, Fenty Beauty’s Mademoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick is more on the affordable side and we’re not complaining. To keep your huat game strong, opt for Ma’Damn for a natural-looking red.
Alternatively, Candy Venom is a beautiful and vibrant shade that’s bound to get some attention.
The thin packaging also means that you’ve got more space in your bag for all the red packets this Lunar New Year!
Another affordable option, H&M’s Matte Lip Color in Red Haute is highly pigmented and so wearable. Also, how cute is the gold packaging? Definitely in line with the Lunar New Year theme.
Just remember to layer on a layer of lip balm over your matter lipstick to prevent your lips from drying out and flaking.
We love crayon lipsticks. Not only are they easy to apply, you can create ombre lips and other sort of looks with them.
Marc Jacob’s ! is the perfect red shade for most skin tones too. It’s said to last up to 16-hours!
Said to be budge-proof (watch their test video here), Korean brand Aprilskin’s range of Fixing Lip Tints are perfect for the Lunar New Year.
They’re available in only three shades but we reckon you’ll find one you like. We’re fans of the Bloody Mary shade (first from left) because of its intensity but you can always opt for the lighter red shade, Tomato Lady (second from left), that’s got a slight orange-tinge to it.
