The way you dry your hair can either give you a salon-worthy blowout or damage your precious locks and cause frizz, breakage and even premature hair fall (every woman’s nightmare!).
But before you panic, here are 8 important dos and don’ts of blow-drying your hair to keep your mane in tip top shape:
DON’T move the hairdryer in an upwards motion, always blow downwards to keep the cuticles flat and smooth.
DON’T apply heavy products before a blow-dry as it weighs your hair down, advises Maurice Chee, Creative Director at PREP Luxe.
DON’T blow dry your hair straight after a shower when it’s sopping wet, as that’s when hair is at its weakest and most vulnerable state. Wait until hair is more than halfway dry before switching on the hair dryer, to avoid damaging cuticles.
DON’T keep your hairdryer at one spot, as this can burn the scalp and hair follicles. Instead, keep moving the dryer around.
DO divide your hair into four sections, securing with pins or clips and working each section at a time.
DO pick a good hair dryer. Ionic hair dryers are ideal, as they reduce frizz and dry hair faster without frying it. Opt for ceramic hair dryers instead of metal or plastic, like the Revlon 2-in-1 Dryer Brush (image right)! Look out for one with multi-heat and speed settings, or better yet, intelligent heat control like the Dyson Supersonic (image left).
And never dry your hair with a flat iron!

DO apply a heat protectant and turn your hairdryer to the lowest setting available to minimise heat damage, advises Priscilla Loo, Leading Stylist at Salon Vim Bugis. Try the Schwarzkopf OSIS+ Flatliner heat protectant which also helps tame frizz!
