Everything You Need To Know About Facial, Massage, And Spa Treatments In Phase 2

Plus, a list of treatments to consider that suit your post-circuit breaker needs

by Farisia Thang  /   July 6, 2020
Facial, body, spa treatment

Since the opening of Phase 2, many businesses have resumed as per usual. Some of which include personal health and wellness, and home-based services. Meaning treatments like facials, massages, and spas are all open and running. But if you still have your concerns and have been hesitant to book your appointments because of them, then we compiled a list of need-to-knows so you can feel more assured before your next treatment.

What to expect at the clinic and spa

One thing’s for certain, no matter the business, extensive and strict safety measures are the norm for the foreseeable future. Dr Low Chai Ling, founder of SW1 Clinic, shares “We have added cleansing and disinfection measures for all equipment and surfaces after each patient. We use disposable wipes for cleaning patients’ faces so that they are reassured of our cleanliness and hygiene. There is also added time in between facials to disinfect the rooms and surroundings before the next patient and every patient is also assigned just one nurse to minimise unnecessary contact.”

Dr Low goes on to share, “As our clinic is over 6000 sq feet with more than 25 rooms, each patient has a dedicated consult room as well a facial treatment room. Therefore, they do not need to loiter in common areas or come into unnecessary contact with other patients. They also feel more comfortable and pampered having their own treatment suite reserved for them from the beginning to the end of the treatment.”

Beyond the customary and mandatory temperature checks, you can expect mandatory temperature checks and hand sanitisers readily available should you require it. Bernice Chue, Digital Marketing Specialist at Ikeda Group, explains, “At Ikeda Spa, beyond the standard of having our staff take their temperature twice a day, wearing masks and shields for the safety of our customers, we also limit the number of customers per day to avoid unnecessary waiting. Since the re-opening, we have conducted consultations in rooms instead and increased our spa supplies and towels to streamline the efficiency and hygiene of our process.”

The EPION Aesthetics has also increased protective measures by moving all client check-in and check-out procedures into rooms as opposed to waiting areas. Dr Melvin Tan, medical director at EPION Clinic, shares “Our curation of treatments at EPION Aesthetics uses techniques and high-tech machines that are comfortable, safe, effective, and have minimal downtime. Rooms are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and prepped before receiving the next client. We’ve had to reduce the number of clients at any given time to give the staff ample time to turnover the rooms, but while there are more safety measures in place, the experience and results are not compromised.”

What you should do to stay safe

Most clinics have implemented the digital check-in and check-out service, Safe Entry, for contact tracing, so that you can easily use it. Avoid walking-in without an appointment to receive your treatment, as there are more safety measures in place, they’ll likely be more strict about timings and bookings to ensure that rooms and needed treatments are sanitised for your safety. Call them ahead of time to book your appointment, and if you’re feeling unwell, stay at home and postpone the appointment.

As always, keep your mask on. You’ll likely remove it for the treatment, but leave it on during the consultation, and the billing process.

Treatments to try in Phase 2

With concerns of COVID still prominent despite the opening of Phase Two, many businesses have realised that the best way forward is to adapt and innovate. For facial, body, and spa treatments, what this looks like is specially customised and branded treatments that address the needs and concerns post-circuit breaker.

Apart from the hygiene and sanitisation upkeep, clinics are creating treatments targeting skin and body problems that may have become more prominent during circuit breaker. Either breakouts due to the stress of this period, rashes and inflammation from regular mask-wearing, body pains from working at home, or even a mental concern over the physical contact during treatments.

To make it easier for you, here are five treatments and their benefits to consider the next time you want to book an appointment.

Everything You Need To Know About Facial, Massage, And Spa Treatments In Phase 2
Plasma Pollution Defense treatment at EPION Aesthetics

If your day to day routine in Phase Two has shifted to commutes and working in the office, then your skin has likely been experiencing the effects of the grind of city life. What with pollutants, dirt, and toxins accumulating over time. Targeted specifically to address these concerns, EPION Aesthetics’ Plasma Pollution Defense treatment fortifies the skin with a plasma-powered antioxidant infusion.

It begins with ultrasonic soundwaves and a stream of plasma ions going deeply into the skin’s layers to clean out any grime from within. Once that is done, your skin is showered with plasma to ensure maximum absorption of an antioxidant serum that fortifies and repairs the skin’s barrier, helping you fight the daily exposure to free radicals. Then, the treatment ends with a cryofacial therapy that stimulates microcirculation, tightens pores to reduce their appearance, and restores the firmness in your skin so you walk out with healthy and glowing skin.

As Dr Tan explains, “More people are turning to medi-facials as they are more scientifically based and effective. EPION Aesthetics facial treatments are developed such that they address multiple layers of the skin. In most cases, they encompass a skin exfoliation component to remove dead skin cells, there are also treatments that help repair skin on a cellular level by using an infusion of serums or light therapy, and ones that penetrate more deeply for collagen stimulation and tightening effects through radiofrequency or infrared light.”

The Plasma Pollution Defense treatment is a 90 minutes session available at $350.

Deep Deep Clean treatment at SW1 Clinic

Dr Low shares, “With wearing masks for longer periods of time, people are complaining about outbreaks, oilier skin, and clogged pores. These are common problems as skin occluded by masks can be more prone to comedones and acne. Deep cleansing facials are important at this time. Our most popular skin detox facials include Deep Deep Clean and Clear Blue facials and patients find their skin looking much clearer after.”

This is the ultimate no-nonsense deep cleaning treatment that combines microdermabrasion with a fruit acid wash, five to ten minutes of ultrasonic deep pore purging, and a targeted facial wrap to keep breakouts away post-treatment. Using ultrasonic wave motion, this treatment removes aged surface skin cells and impurities like blackheads and whiteheads. Your skin will be noticeably clearer and softer after each treatment and will help with a more refined and smooth complexion. The Deep Deep Clean treatment is ideal if you’re constantly wearing makeup or if you have stubborn problems.

Available at $331.70, the Deep Deep Clean treatment at SW1 Clinic is a 60-minute session.

The Signature Hinoki Onsen uses Japan’s most prized cypress wood that was once reserved for royalty. Before your treatment, you’ll receive a consultation that will help you pick which bath salt best suits your skin’s needs. The cypress wood releases mineral oils with soothing scents, antibacterial properties, and many health benefits. It relieves muscle tension and pain, reduces stress, boosts circulation to increase the metabolism, and nourishes dry and sensitive skin. After every use, the onsen is sanitised to ensure hygienic and safe use for the next guest.

The Traditional Ganbanyoku Detox Therapy is performed on a hot stone bed, where underneath, natural boiling water is heated up to 49°C. This comfortable heat combined with the black silica lava rock bathes the skin with infrared rays and negative ions that help accelerate metabolism, boost your immune system and complexion, and even relieve joint pains.

Bernice explains, “These two are our best-loved treatments at Ikeda Spa, and we decided to change them to contactless treatments to suit the needs and concerns of our customers during this time. We try to find a balance between innovating new treatments while keeping it contactless. This duo treatment is ideal for people who are more conscious and worried during this time but still want to get their fix of relaxation.”

The contactless spa promotion consists of a 30 minutes Signature Hinoki Onsen and 30 minutes Ganbanyoku Detox Therapy and is available at a promotional price of $180+ (U.P. $220+).
