The next time you stay in a hotel, you might want to stay far away from the hair dryer.
According to an investigation by ABC News into the hygiene of hotel rooms, hotel hair dryers are hosting a lot more germs than travellers might think.
Now, hotel guests might be wary of touching certain objects in their rooms, especially in the bathroom. But hotel hair dryers don’t exactly carry the same germy reputation as, say, the toilet.
But maybe they should, especially since the types of germs present in a hotel room could potentially make you sick while you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself on a trip – quite possibly the worst time to have that happen!

A US television show’s hotel investigation saw maids changing the bed sheets, but only giving the pillows a brush and fluff, leaving the same pillowcases on for new guests.
If you forget about cleaning your own remote at home, well, the hotel’s maids probably do too.
Two gross situations could be happening here. Housekeeping staff could be rinsing and drink cups without actually washing them, or they could be disinfecting them with a solution marked with a “do not drink” label.
Those ornate blankets that make your hotel bed look plush aren’t cleaned nearly as often as sheets, so avoid getting too snuggly.
Similar to the remote, the telephone can escape stringent sanitising procedures. Some sleuthing found that phone receivers could be three times as nasty as they should be.
Ever notice how the flooring in hotels is always dark and patterned? That’s an intentional design scheme meant to hide years of built up grime. It’s better to wear some slippers when walking around.
If hotel staff fails to clean the filters (or at least clean the top visible portion), simply turning on the unit can cause dusty particles to fill your room and your lungs.
While that little kettle looks all sorts of inviting, many are riddled with germs and bacteria. Of course this isn’t true for every hotel, but it’s definitely worth keeping in mind.
