Her early years
Born to Kathleen Balgley and John David “J. D.”Ratajkowski when they were 39 and 45 respectively, Emily Ratajkowski lived in London until she was five and moved to California.
Emily followed through with her love for the arts into her teenage years. She was accepted into UCLA’s School of the Arts and Architecture pursuing studies in Fine Arts but left after a year to go full force into modelling.
Emily is very comfortable with her body, often appearing nude on magazine covers and shoots, but believes that it is up to her to choose when and how she wants to share her sexuality without being lambasted for it.
“I am excited and proud to be selected as a Kérastase ambassador. Hair is essential to how I express myself. I love that feeling of clean, textured, natural hair, that instantly makes me feel more confident. I consider my hair as the reflection of my inner strength. It’s not an ornament, but a way to express and empower myself. I think that’s true for all women. There’s such an empowering femininity to hair. It allows women to define who they want to be. That’s why they deserve the best care.”
