Just about every beauty junkie will tell you that sunscreen and sun protection is important but, just how much sunscreen should you be using on different parts of your body if you’re heading out?
Here, we break down just how much sunscreen you need and how often you need to apply them.
How much to apply: If we’re just talking about the skin surface of your face, you should be applying about 1 to 1.5 teaspoon of sunscreen — not including your neck.
When to reapply: Ideally, you should be reapplying sunscreen every two hours but realistically, not everyone has time for that. Unless you know you’re going to be out under the sun all day, reapplying just before heading out is ideal. It’s a good idea to keep a cushion compact with sun protection or a spray-on sunscreen handy!
How much to apply: Half a teaspoon for your neck alone. The skin around your neck is usually thin and is prone to showing signs of aging. Remember to apply sunscreen on the front and the back of your neck — even if you have long hair.
When to reapply: Just like your face, sunscreen should ideally be applied every two hours. But you can easily reapply just before heading out with spray-on sunscreen.
How much to apply: About 1.5 teaspoons on each arm.
When to reapply: Pay close attention to the back of your hands because pigmentation shows up more easily there. If you’re applying sunscreen, remember to reapply after washing your hands because sunscreen can also get washed off.
How much to apply: About 1/2 a teaspoon. We often overlook applying sunscreen onto our ears but it’s important to remember it when getting ready in the morning.
When to reapply: Every time you reapply sunscreen on your face, remember to do for your ears as well.
How much to apply: About 1/2 a teaspoon on each foot. If you love wearing flats or sandals, your feet gets exposed to the sun quite a bit. Applying sunscreen can also help prevent unsightly tan lines.
When to reapply: Re apply just before heading out.
