Are you a fan of the singing competition and reality TV show, The Voice? If your answer is a big, resounding, ‘Yes!’, then you may be familiar with the singer and coach Jessica Mauboy from the current season of The Voice Australia 2021 which just concluded on Sep 12.
We caught up with the indigenous singer as she shares what’s in her beauty bag and her skincare essentials:
Q: What’s one beauty trick you do to instantly make you feel amazing?
Jessica Mauboy: I automatically feel confident when I pop on a red lip. It makes me feel powerful.
Q: Take us through your skincare routine…
Jessica Mauboy: My twice daily skin routine begins with cleansing my face, followed by a toner that’s non-drying and alcohol free, sweeping gently upwards with a cotton pad. I always follow with a serum and my current favourite is L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler Serum with Hyaluronic Acid. It’s perfect under makeup and instantly makes my skin feel plump and hydrated. For day, I follow the some process and add an SPF before applying my makeup.
Q: What’s your favourite look and why?
Jessica Mauboy: My go-to makeup is creating a creamy bronzed glow. After my skincare, I use L’Oréal Paris Infallible More Than Concealer, followed by L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation. Then, I like to use a deep golden powder to contour my face and I also use it as an eyeshadow. I always finish with a spritz of Shake & Glow Dew Mist for a healthy looking glow. I love how I can vamp this look up as little or as much as I need, depending on my schedule.
Q: What are some of the best beauty tips the pros have taught you over the years?
Jessica Mauboy: Firstly, it’s skin prep. Prepping the skin ensures a better and more long-lasting finish. Hydration throughout the day to keep the lips and face plump is another key learning, as well as using a smoothing sheet mask before event makeup.
Q: You’ve recently joined forces with L’Oréal Paris for their Women of Worth campaign. Tell us a little bit more about it?
Jessica Mauboy: I am so honoured to be joining the L’Oréal Paris family, I have always loved the brand and everything it stands for. It empowers all women to strive for confidence and empowerment, and encourages us all on our journey to self-fulfilment. A recent study commissioned by L’Oréal Paris revealed that a shocking 94 per cent of Australian women have low self-esteem, 73 per cent experience moments of self-doubt every week, with nearly 70 per cent saying self-doubt is the greatest block to their success – which is why I decided to partner with L’Oréal Paris. I wanted to help put a stop to this through sharing with other women my own journey with overcoming self-doubt.
Q: Do you have any positive affirmations you tell yourself every day?
Jessica Mauboy: Growing up, my parents always said to me, way before I began my career in the music industry, “Never forget who you are and where you come from”. And believe it or not, I still say these words to myself before every performance. I believe it always grounds me and prepares me to do whatever I can.
