Early on Thursday morning, April 21 2016, acclaimed and highly influential musician Prince passed on in his Minnesota home. He was 57.
With more than 100 million records sold, the singer was an inspiration to many of today’s modern artists. From rock, funk to jazz, the singer was not one to conform to a genre and preferred to experiment. His versatility and hard work ultimately landed him many awards and is well known for being an iconic performer, who not only wrote the lyrics to his song but arranged, produced and played them.
All around the world, musicians and artists who were both friends and admirers of the singer poured out touching tributes when the legendary performer’s death was announced. Even NASA, posted a posted a photo of a purple nebula, to honour the celestial wonder that left us.

Justin Timberlake and Prince draw many similarities in terms of musical and vocal style and Justin has long been a fan. In almost every interview that asked who his inspiration is, Justin has named Prince as one of them.
“It would be silly to say that he has inspired our music… It’s beyond that. He’s somewhere within every song I’ve ever written. I am sad, but I will smile when I think of every second that I had the fortune of being in his company. We have lost our greatest living musician. But his music will never die. Prince, NOTHING COMPARES. #RIPPrince”, he wrote on Instagram.
Fellow musician and friend, Lenny Kravitz gave a short but sweet tribute.
“My musical brother… My friend… The one who showed me the possibilities within myself, changed everything, and kept his integrity until the end, is gone. I am heartbroken.”
Beyonce let her picture do the talking in her captionless Instagram photo.
The singer most recently performed with Prince at the Grammy’s in 2004.
Director Spike Lee held a block party in honour of Prince and posted this heartfelt shot on Instagram.
Girls actress, Lena Dunham’s touching tribute ended with an equally touching hashtag, #ThankYouForAFunkyTime and #PrinceForever.
Iconic singer, Chaka Khan shared a photo of herself with Prince. “I loved him, the world loved him. Now, he’s at peace with his Father. Rest in power, my brother,” she wrote on Twitter.
Madonna has always been inspired by Prince and his daring style. She shared a photo of herself with Prince in matching yellow jackets.
Subtle but nonetheless appropriate, NASA released a photo of a purple nebula on their Twitter page and it’s been favourited 40 thousand times.
Musician, The Weeknd shared a photo of the time he got to fistbump Prince for the first time. “I promise this was the greatest moment of my entire life. I wish I could relive it everyday,” he wrote on Twitter.
Female rapper Missy Elliott posted a photo of a picture of Prince that was drawn on her wall because she was so inspired by him.
