There are plenty of reasons to love Nathan Hartono, not least because he proudly represented Singapore in the Sing! China final in Beijing.
Nathan, who came in second place, had competed against five other contestants in the final held at the National Stadium which was won by China’s Jiang Dunhao.
He picked two Jay Chou classics – singing the Nunchucks rap hit with his mentor and the Longest Movie ballad by himself.
In case you missed it, catch one of his performances here:
After the two rounds, spectators at the stadium voted and the top two scorers – Nathan with 35,577 votes and Jiang Dunhao, who had the highest score of 39,962 votes – got to vie for the crown through another solo performance.
Nathan then sang a medley of Moonlight in the City and Woman Flower – songs by Singaporean singer Mavis Hee and Hong Kong legend Anita Mui respectively.
But in the end, it was the Xinjiang-native who triumphed. Nathan received 45,613 of votes while Jiang garnered 59,852 votes from spectators.

Nathan Hartono looked every inch the superstar as he sang with his mentor Jay Chou. Before his performance, Chou introduced Nathan, saying he hopes he will achieve “not bad results”.
Nathan Hartono sang Jay Chou’s “The Longest Movie” (Zui Chang De Dian Ying) and looked handsome in a brown trench coat. Swoon!
On Nathan singing one of his songs, Jay Chou had this to say: “People who usually sing my songs don’t end up (doing) very well. In the past, they have been eliminated. But I hope Nathan can break this curse.”
How cute was Nathan and his grandma during his playback video? It was nice to see his family wholeheartedly supporting his ambition and rooting for him while he undertook the mammoth task of competing overseas.
We know Nathan has been self-conscious about his Mandarin during the competition so it was sweet to see fellow contestant Lee Pei Ling quickly translate for him during the finals.
