Adele To Whitney: 12 Iconic Female Grammy Performances That Gave Us Chills
Adele, "Rolling In The Deep" (2012)
custom

What made Adele’s performance especially amazing was the fact that she had just undergone throat surgery some weeks prior to remove a benign polyp in her vocal cords. After this soulful performance, Adele went on to sweep the Grammys, winning all six of her nominations including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Just incredible!

Pink, "Glitter In The Air" (2010)
custom

The 39-year-old dazzled audiences with a stunning gravity-defying act (after appearing in a simple jeans and t-shirt combo) at the 2010 Grammy Awards. And it wasn’t just the acrobatics that captured viewers’ attention, but the fact that Pink’s vocals remained silky smooth throughout her flying routine. Watch for yourself in the video above.

Christina Aguilera, "It's A Man's World" (2007)
custom

Queen of vocal runs, Christina’s soulful tribute performance to James Brown was nothing short of spectacular. Critics even say it’s one of the best performances of her career.

Jennifer Hudson, "I Will Always Love You" (2012)
custom

Less than 24 hours before the 2012 Grammy Awards, iconic songstress Whitney Houston was found dead in a bathtub in the Beverly Hilton hotel in California. The 48-year-old’s sudden death shocked the music world, and Jennifer Hudson was tasked to perform a special music tribute during the Awards. What a touching tribute.

Whitney Houston, "I Will Always Love You" (1994)

Now, see Whitney’s own powerful performance of the same song at the 37th Grammy Awards. She won Record of the Year for this song in the previous year, as well as Best Pop Vocal Performance (Female) and Album of the Year. In total, Whitney received seven Grammy awards in her lifetime, with 26 nominations.

Whitney Houston, "One Moment In Time" (1989)
custom

Considered one of her best live performances ever, this song was first recorded for the 1988 Summer Olympics in South Korea. Her electrifying performance earned her an instant standing ovation at the 31st Grammy Awards.

Beyonce & Tina Turner, "Proud Mary" (2008)
custom

What a treat — two legendary singers on the same stage! This was Tina Turner’s first performance in over seven years, and with a song that she won a Grammy for in 1972 no less. The rousing routine is definitely one for the history books. (Also, can you believe Beyonce was just 26 at the time?)

Beyonce, "Listen" (2007)
custom

Just a year before her duet with Tina Turner, Queen Bey (as her fans affectionately call her) took the stage at the 49th Grammy Awards solo with a passionate performance of her hit song from the Dreamgirls soundtrack.

Alicia Keys, "If I Ain't Got You" (2005)
custom

The R&B singer-songwriter put on a mesmerising performance of her hit ballad at the 2005 Grammy Awards, which won her the award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. The 15-time Grammy winner is also hosting this year’s award show!

Mariah Carey, "Vision Of Love" (1991)
custom

Can you believe this pop diva was just a newcomer in the early 90s? She delivered  this stunning performance of her debut single “Vision of Love” at the 33rd Grammy Awards, where she also won Best New Artist. In 2017, this performance was crowned by Billboard as one of the 10 greatest in the history of award shows.

Lady Gaga, "Born This Way" (2011)
custom

Who can forget the moment Lady Gaga showed up on the red carpet in a giant egg at the 53rd Grammys? And it didn’t end there — the provocative singer “hatched” onstage during her performance of her hit single “Born This Way”, and boy was it thrilling to watch (relive the moment in the video above). She returned to the stage later to pick up the award for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink, Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott and Patti Labelle, "Lady Marmalade" (2002)
custom

This iconic collaboration is definitely one that stands out in Grammy history because just when you think it can’t be topped, the song’s original singer, Patti Labelle emerges at the top of the stairs like a dream. It was simply the cherry on top, and the group went on to win Best Pop Vocal Collaboration With Vocals at the 44th Grammy Awards.

We can’t wait to see what new performances are in store at this year’s Grammys!
