With Mother’s Day celebrations and the Blackpink concert coinciding over the weekend, it was no surprise that the local celebrity scene saw a flurry of activity. Familiar faces like Glenn Yong, Sgag’s Xiao Ming and Zoe Tay were spotted at Blackpink’s gig, while online personalities Jessica Tham and Roxanne Gan spent time overseas, unwinding and enjoying some time away from their busy lives. More on what local celebrities were up to below!
Xiao Ming (Adrian Ang) celebrated Mother’s Day with a post of his wife and baby and expressed his appreciation for Xin Lei by adding that having her as his wife and watching her be a mother to their child were the only two things better than watching Jennie at a Blackpink concert. This came after a series of light-hearted exchanges between the couple, on his Instagram page where his wife announced that she was giving away one of his plants since he was attending the concert. Xiao Ming also posted a picture of him at the concert, wearing a shirt that said “Sorry Jennie, I’m married”.
Mum of three, Zoe Tay, spent her weekend at the Blackpink concert with her kids, as well as fellow celebs like Jeremy Chan, Tay Ying, and Bonnie Loo. The actress posted pictures of her hugging two boys who are presumably her sons and enthusiastically posing with Born Pink merch. Talk about a cool Mother’s Day outing.
Life can get overwhelming, especially when you’re a mum. For actress and entrepreneur Sheila Sim, who has two young kids, a stroll in the park and meditating can help, she says, sharing that she takes her younger daughter Skyla to a nearby park after dropping her older one, Layla, off at school.
She shares, “I use my five senses to take in my surroundings, which takes less than 10 minutes, but I feel so recharged afterwards. I have noticed that my mindfulness practice has an impact on my children as well. Notice in the video that Skyla becomes less fidgety and calmer after I meditate. Babies are incredibly sensitive to energy, and I can see the difference it makes when I practice with them.”
Back home, online personality Ang Qiu Ting posted a sweet moment of her younger daughter, Melia, trying over 40 times to attempt a jump at the AMPED Trampoline Park before eventually succeeding. She also shared that after jumping with the encouragement of her sister, Melia offered advice to another girl who was struggling as she was, a short while ago. Qiu Ting used this opportunity to talk about how she believes that running her race at her own pace and not giving up will eventually allow her to accomplish the things that used to scare her. This heartwarming post drives home the importance of trusting in ourselves and taking a leap of faith on our own terms.
The Momo twins and their younger brother, Luke, put together a special performance to convey their love for their mum on Mother’s Day. Their rendition of the song ‘Nobody’ was accompanied by cute dance moves. Their performance dissolving into a fit of giggles, midway, made the whole attempt all the more adorable.
Melody Chen uploaded a reel reflecting on her journey as a mother and her identity beyond being a mum. She shared words of encouragement to those, similar to her, experiencing midlife inertia. Her post prompts us to take it easy and spend sometime focusing on selfcare, a meaningful nugget of wisdom to consider this Mother’s Day.
Leading up to the Mother’s Day weekend, lifestyle influencer Jessica Tham and her husband carried on their annual tradition of spending time abroad on a trip away from their kids. This year, they’re on vacay in Portugal, and the couple has been exploring the country and treating themselves to experiences otherwise not suited for a family trip. On Mother’s Day, the mother of two took to Instagram to express her love for being a mother and how much she misses her sons.
Jessica’s getaway is a timely reminder that as much as mothers love their kids, sometimes the best way to celebrate motherhood is to take some time off for themselves.
In more such news, fitness personality and instructor Roxanne Gan was also out of town over the past week as she spent time with her family at Bintan. Posting a serene looking picture of her practicing a yoga pose, the professional Yoga trainer shared that she was using this retreat to connect with nature and her body while spending quality time with her family and enjoying buffets. Sounds like a wonderful trip indeed.
Joining the list of celebrity blinks is Glenn Yong who attended his first ever Blackpink concert over the weekend. He posted snippets of the concert as he enjoyed a clear front view of the show. Looks like Glenn met his celebrity crush not once but twice, at the Calvin Klein collaboration with Jennie and at the Born Pink tour in Singapore.
Amidst all the fanboy activity, Glenn also posted a reel with his mum for Mother’s Day. Their wholesome interactions and matching preferences made it clear that the mother-son duo share a special bond.
