Athleticism runs in his blood too — his father Wang Ruji was an Asian Games gold medalist in fencing while her mother Sophia Chow was a world-champion Shanghainese gymnast.
Jackson Wang was also offered a spot at the prestigious Stanford University via a sports scholarship in 2011, but we know how things turned out for him.
Jackson Wang gave both dreams up and instead relocated to South Korea. Fun fact: he was scouted while playing basketball in school. He was invited to audition by the JYP Entertainment casting team and he made it to the end and eventually debuted as part of the boy band GOT7 in 2014 with their first EP Got It? after two and a half years of training.

Following that, he fully focused on developing his own career after previously releasing solo albums under his own label Team Wang. Moreover, he is also part of the hip-hop group Panthepack under Team Wang alongside three other labelmates and released the album The Pack in 2021.

Great news perhaps to anyone who’s reading this: Jackson Wang wants to date. In a 2023 interview, the Hong Kong star said, “Yes, I really want to date. It’s not that I didn’t try. There are opportunities but sometimes the environment doesn’t allow me to.”
Jackson Wang, however, finds it difficult to date as he is too busy. “For example, I might really like your personality and want to know you better, but then I have to fly to Thailand the next day and then to South Korea the following day. The fire would be gone.”
“I’ll let nature take its course. By the time I’m 35 or 40, if I cannot find love, I will post on Instagram to ask for help.”
Jackson Wang is only human and has had to deal with mental health struggles in the past. In 2022, he opened up about the issues he faced. “For the past eight years, I’ve been living the commercial life. I’ve been living on a schedule, show after show. It’s like a loop. And, that’s why, after eight (to) nine years of that, I got to a point I lost it, mentally. I was lost, I didn’t know what to do.”
During this dark period, Jackson Wang isolated himself and turned to bad habits to get him through. “I was home, I was drinking by myself every day to a time that I couldn’t breathe. And I told my team to just stop talking to me.” He also shared that he felt lonely.
Fortunately, Jackson Wang found refuge in his friends, who helped me through tough times. “Whenever I deal with stress, I used to not talk with anybody because I felt like, ‘I’m just gonna find the solution and solve it’. But it got to a point where, with the positive energy of friends around me, that they gave me, they forced me, they sat me down and talked with me, and it’s the first time in my life that I felt that connection.”
“I felt, ‘Why am I blocking my whole life? Why am I trying to seek for solutions myself, why am I afraid to say I’m not okay?’ The second thing was the acceptance of “I started with nothing and I’m not afraid to lose everything”. At least every single day I want to live like myself. Be honest to myself, be honest to the audience, making sure that this is the real me, not what they think I am. It was as simple as that, but that just changed me in some way.”
One of Jackson Wang’s weaknesses is his inability to tolerate spicy foods. He even gets rashes and puffy skin after tasting spicy foods.
Moreover, Jackson Wang is also allergic to cats and would break out in severe rashes and itching in the eyes when he is near any.
