While every day should be Mother’s Day, the dedicated second Sunday of May every year reminds us all to honour and appreciate our mums who have given so much to nurture us into the people we are today.
Like us, local celebrities such as Fann Wong and Zoe Tay also commemorated the day in a similar fashion, with handmade, heartfelt gifts and spending quality time together as a family.
Fann Wong, Christopher Lee and their son Zed took to the seas on a catamaran to celebrate the special day. Fann shared a series of adorable family photos as they travelled seemingly to Lazarus Island while enjoying the sun and beautiful blue skies.
The simplest gifts can be the most heartfelt. Just take it from Kate Pang’s daughter Avery who made a series of hand-drawn gifts depicting the happy family of four, which include fellow actor Andie Chen, on repurposed food packaging.
This year was Sheila Sim’s first Mother’s Day after giving birth to her daughter Layla in September last year. In the caption, she reflected that the best gift for the special occasion was really to watch her child grow up, learn new skills and gain confidence.
Zoe Tay received multiple gifts from her two sons, including a hand-drawn card with a character made in her likeness and a heartfelt message as well as a series of Pokemon-themed earrings. Zoe added that happiness can be as simple as this and wished everyone a happy Mother’s Day.
Jamie Yeo’s daughter and son went for a different approach with their Mother’s Day gift. Instead of a handwritten card, the two filmed (or at least tried to before they broke in a friendly sibling tussle) a video sending their well-wishes to their beloved mother.
Eleanor gave us a glimpse into her family history with a series of throwback photos that featured her younger self with mother Quan Yi Fong and family. Eleanor also wondered if the mother and daughter were mermaids in their previous lives as most of her childhood photos were taken at the beach.
While Chantalle was busy working from 7am to 11pm on Mother’s Day, she still took the time to dedicate a post to her mother Lin Meijiao with a photo of the two. She added on her Instagram Stories that she would make it up to her, showing just how filial she is. Aww.
Besides wishing happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there, Jacelyn shared a selfie of her and her son Xavier holding a flower that he had plucked from the balcony plants. Jacelyn was heartened by the gesture and professed her love for Xavier.
Mothers can empathise when Cheryl Wee reflected that “motherhood is no walk in the park”. Cheryl further added that her kids, with a third on the way, “are the reason that fills my heart, that makes me smile and laugh so hard at the simplest and silliest things, that enlightens me and most of all teach me to love like never before”. How sweet!
Vivian Lai was another parent that received a digital gift instead of an analogue one. She shared the collage done by her children using photos of them participating in various activities such as feeding birds or at local attractions. In her caption, Vivian also wished mothers around the world to be healthy, youthful and always happy.
