If you’ve always wanted to rub shoulders with royalty, you may just be able to do that this year. Beloved royal couple Prince William and Duchess Catherine are reportedly embarking on a royal tour of Asia in the very near future. They are no strangers to a royal tour, having done several legs overseas as a married couple and many solo trips too. While Kensington Palace has not commented on the tour at this stage, it is expected that more details will be released in the coming weeks.
Here’s everything we know about the trip so far:

The trip will probably take place in “autumn”, and is understood to be “weeks apart” from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tour of Africa, which is set to take place in October this year. This means they will likely be touring some time in September.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will tour Commonwealth countries within the Asian continent – some of which could include Bangladesh, Singapore, India and Malaysia, reports Mail On Sunday. Their trip to Asia this year is also touted to include a visit to Sri Lanka, where tragic terror attacks took place on Easter Sunday.
The purpose of royal tours (that is, when members of the royal family go on state or official visits overseas) is essentially to improve relations between the UK and other countries, especially the Commonwealth ones. The royals will meet prime ministers and senior state officials, as well as tour major attractions in the city they’re visiting. So we can expect William and Kate to be photographed at various famous sites in the countries they step into!
While it’s unclear whether the pair will take their three children with them, there’s definitely a chance. Kate and William’s tour of Asia (if all is confirmed) will be their first major tour since the arrival of Prince Louis. Prince George, who will turn six in July, joined Kate and Wills on their tour of Australia in 2014.
Meanwhile Charlotte also joined in the fun with her elder brother when their parents toured Canada in 2016. With this in mind, it seems young Prince Louis and his siblings could well be Asia-bound as well – we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!
Yes, William and Kate last visited Bhutan and India in 2016, where they posed for pictures in front of the majestic Taj Mahal. In 2012, the royal couple also visited Singapore and other countries in the Southeast Asia and South Pacific region, including Malaysia, Tuvalu and the Solomon Islands.
Here’s a snapshot of the couple at our very own Gardens By The Bay:
The news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to tour Africa was revealed earlier this year, with many overjoyed at the prospect of the young royals spending time in the continent that is understood to be close to their hearts.
It is rumoured that Harry and Meghan will spend two weeks touring the continent with their new baby son Archie – an exciting update in its own given we’ll have ample opportunity to see the little bub!
The tour is likely to include a visit to Malawi, whereby Harry’s work with charity Sentebale will be a big focus. Also likely to be on the agenda for the royals is Angola, Botswana and South Africa.
Botswana in particular is a special place for the couple, where they were said to have spent some precious time together in the early stages of their relationship. The news of the upcoming royal tours are undoubtedly exciting – whirlwind royal tours overseas have been a traditional occurrence for a number of decades. They provide fans with plenty of new photos, clips and anecdotes from the regal family as they experience new cultures and strengthen their ties with other countries.
Stay tuned – it looks like September and October are going to involve some right royal spectacles!
