The 76th Cannes Film Festival will soon drawing to an end on May 27, and the 11-day affair has seen droves of celebrities descending on its red carpet. Apart from regulars like Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, there were a slew of Asian celebs, including several Korean stars making their debut at the prestigious film festival such as Song Joong-ki, and Blackpink’s Rose and Jennie.
Song Joong-ki, who attended the Hope premiere with his cast, made his debut at the Cannes Film Festival in a classic tux by Louis Vuitton. The 37-year-old had just been announced House Ambassador of the French luxury brand a day ago. Earlier on, the dad-to-be was also spotted in Cannes with his wife Katy Saunders, who is pregnant with their first child.
Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh rocked up to the red carpet in a striking green Balenciaga Couture gown for the screening of ‘Firebrand’ at the Cannes Film Festival. She wore this with opera gloves and a dramatic statement necklace. If it looks familiar, it’s because it isn’t the first time she’s worn this shade of green to a big event — the 60-year-old also sported an emerald-hued Prabal Gurung to the Met Gala last year.
Also making her debut at the Cannes Film Festival was Blackpink’s Jennie, who arrived for the screening of the TV series The Idol on May 22. The K-pop idol and Chanel’s ambassador donned a romantic bridal-esque lace midi with gossamer black off-shoulder sleeves from the fashion house’s Spring 2020 couture show.
Fellow Blackpink member Rosé also attended her first Cannes Film Festival, arriving for the Monster premiere in a slinky halter number by Saint Laurent that wrapped around her neck and fell into a scarf over her shoulder. She matched the look with an elegant updo and delicate earrings.
Crazy Rich Asians and Eternals actress Gemma Chan was a vision in white at the premiere of Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Monster. She wore a custom Louis Vuitton halter gown with a full embroidered skirt and a floor-length cape and had her hair up in a classic bun.
Her jewellery, a pair of earrings and a bracelet in white gold with sapphires and diamonds, and a white gold and diamond ring, were also from Louis Vuitton’s High Jewelry collection.
Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has always brought drama to international red carpets. For the premiere of “Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny”, the actress wore a Sophie Couture creation with lightweight aluminium details, a cinched corset, and a dramatic structured hood. The look also featured crystals sourced from the archives of the brand’s Cannes Capsule Collection.
Thai actress Araya Alberta Hargate, who’s a regular fixture on the Festival’s red carpet, brought her A-game with a flurry of ruffles and a cloud-like train. Her gown is by Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran.
Evoking fairytale vibes, Chinese actress Tang Wei stepped out in a shimmery ballgown from The Atelier’s Spring 2024 Bridal collection.
