Jay Chou has reportedly enrolled his eldest daughter in Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School (IGGS), an esteemed boarding school located in Brisbane, Australia. According to Chinese media reports, eight-year-old Hathaway is set to join the primary school at IGGS after this summer break.
Interestingly, this decision aligns with the fact that Jay Chou’s wife Hannah Quinlivan has familial ties to Brisbane, as her father and extended family reside there. It appears that the couple has already completed the enrollment process, ensuring that their daughter’s educational path is set.
Here are some interesting facts about IGGS we’ve gathered.
It was reported in Chinese media that the proportion of international students at IGGS does not exceed 4% of the total student population. According to the school’s website, the application process also includes an interview with the child’s parents.
Yeap, you read that right. And that’s just for primary school levels! The tuition fees go up to AUD35,844 (~$32,481) per year for secondary school levels, while boarding fees can cost up to AUD22,798 (~$20,659) per year. There are also other miscellaneous fees involved, which adds about another $2,500 to total costs. But hey, we doubt Jay Chou will bat an eyelid at this.
Notable alumni include Rachel Nolan, the youngest woman elected to the Queensland parliament, poet and novelist Zora Cross, and AFL Women’s players Dakota Davidson and Kate Lutkins.
Students can join various musical ensembles, play instruments like piano, guitar, harp, and violin, and explore music production and vocal training. Perhaps Hathaway will continue her dad’s Mandopop legacy?
