10 Celebrities We Lost In 2019
Regular folks AND celebrities alike took to social media to create these truly iconic moments that we can now look back on and enjoy. Truthfully, there were too many moments to count so we’ve rounded a few highlights that we thought really made waves instead below:
In early January, the Instagram account @world_record_egg posted a picture of an egg. The caption that came with the photo said the account simply wanted to get more likes than the most popular post on the social media platform at the time – a picture by Kylie Jenner. Just over a week later, the goal was achieved.
A random challenge that sparked a viral craze. Tons of celebs, including Donnie Yen, got in on the action and showed off their martial arts prowess (or lack thereof!). In the challenge, the celebrities unscrewed a bottle cap halfway and then attempted to completely unscrew the cap with a roundhouse kick.
Does anyone remember Fiji Water Girl? We can’t believe this happened in January because it seems like SO long ago but yes Fiji Water Girl was a thing that happened this year. People watching the Golden Globes noticed that she was hovering near almost every celebrity on the red carpet and she quickly gained a following online, and tons of memes in her name.
Ah… Kombucha Girl… how you have stolen our hearts! The viral video of TikTok-er Brittany Tomlinson trying kombucha for the first time was a roller-coaster of emotions. At first, she hates it, and then loves it, and then she is unsure about it. Needless to say, Brittany and her face went totally viral.
In February, US President Donald Trump gave his State of the Union Address and a less-than-impressed Nancy Pelosi, who is the House Speaker, gave him a clap that can only be described as sarcasm in motion. She became a meme, he got impeached (eventually) and all was well in the world.
To celebrate the release of his single Chicken Noodle Soup, BTS member J-hope dropped a video of himself dancing to the song and encouraged fans to do the same, tagging it #cnschallenge. Well, it spread like wildfire and soon everyone and their grandma were flapping their wings to this killer song.
Remember when everyone was taking part in this challenge and your feed was full of throwback photos? The #10YearChallenge was simple: post a photo of yourself in 2009 beside a current 2019 one. Celebrities took to this trend like a moth to a flame and the results were as dramatic and cringe-worthy as you’d thought it’d be.
Meanwhile in Singapore, we had our own Internet set on fire when a Gojek driver had a dispute with his passenger. A video of the girl accusing her driver of taking her hostage because she didn’t want to pay ERP charges and asking him whether it was of her race took off among netizens here and the whole situation exploded into memes, video remixes and countless reenactments.
This year, 13 million people downloaded FaceApp to see what they would look like as an elderly person including celebrities like the Jonas Brothers, Gordon Ramsay, Carrie Underwood, N*SYNC, Mindy Kaling and more. Question is? In an industry where looking young is the holy grail, why did these celebs want to look much, much older than their years?
In October, Kylie Jenner posted a video tour of the Kylie Cosmetics office. In the video, she wakes up her daughter, Stormi, from a nap by singing “rise and shine.” Well, you know what happens when the Internet latches onto something: Remixes and memes were born!

Snapchat added new filters to their line-up including baby face ones and gender swapping ones. The results were hilarious because people started using them on random celebrities and the pictures were beyond adorable. Just look at the Queer Eye cast as babies here! Aww!
For some reason parents were cheesing their babies left, right and centre this year. This weird challenge involves taking a slice of cheese and flinging it onto a baby’s face to see their reaction. Most were left a little cheesed off but the whole thing kind of came off as cute. We don’t know…
I sent my mom a dm of somebody “cheesing” a kid. This is what I got back… pic.twitter.com/qHh2SoDKVW
