Fertility problems are more or less glossed over in the public eye, although so many people (both famous and not famous) deal with them throughout their lives.
In a bid to have children, many women have opted to “rent a womb” and conceive a viable baby through surrogacy.
While there are no explicit laws that prohibit surrogacy in Singapore, guidelines set out by the Ministry of Health state that clinics that provide fertility treatments are not allowed to carry out surrogacy arrangements.

News broke in June 2017 that after much public speculation, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have hired a surrogate to carry their third child together. And now, it’s been confirmed that the surrogate is pregnant — and that little North and Saint will soon have a new sibling.
[UPDATE: JAN 17 2018: According to a post in her app, Kim Kardashian’s unnamed surrogate has already given birth. Based on reports, the surrogate has given birth to a baby girl weighing in at 3.17kg.]
Speculation that the actress’ son with actor Huang Xiaoming was born via surrogate was in the spotlight earlier this year, after China’s No. 1 Paparazzo Zhuo Wei microblog weighed in on the online discussion. While it hasn’t been confirmed, Angelababy did look as skinny as ever following the birth of her baby.
In August 2015, Liu introduced her Instagram followers to the “new little man” in her life — a baby boy named Rockwell Lloyd. Her representative told the media, “I can confirm that Lucy Liu is the proud mother of Rockwell Lloyd Liu, brought into the world via gestational carrier. Mum and baby are healthy and happy.”
Nicole’s second child together with Keith Urban was welcomed through a surrogate in December 2010. “Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier,” said the couple in a statement.
Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick added to their family with the help of a surrogate. The couple, who already had son James Wilkie, welcomed twin girls Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge Broderick in June 2009.
Tyra Banks and partner Erik Asla welcomed a surprise “miracle baby” via surrogate in January 2016. She took to Instagram to say, “The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us.”
In 2016, The Fast and the Furious star welcomed her second child with husband Andrew Form using a gestational surrogate — son Rowan Brewster-Form. The couple were already parents to 2-year-old son Julian, who was also born via surrogacy.
E! News host, Giuliana Rancic and her husband welcomed a baby boy, Edward Duke Rancic, in August 2012. The baby was born via a gestational carrier and Giuliana said: “Bill and I are blessed beyond words to welcome Edward into our lives.”
For actress Ellen Pompeo, who gave birth to daughter Stella in 2009, having a second child via surrogate was something she wanted to keep very private. The Grey’s Anatomy actress did reveal her second child’s arrival two months after she was born, however, via an October 2014 Instagram post.
Actress Elizabeth Banks always wanted to carry a child of her own, so the decision to use a gestational surrogate was difficult. But thanks to the process, she and her husband Max Handelman now have two children, Felix and Magnus.
