Don’t let back-to-school blues get to you as we have lots of intriguing and educational activities lined up this week. From a spectacular lantern installation at Jurong Lake Gardens to a stargazing crash-course at the Singapore Science Centre, there is something fun to do for every kid.
Better late than never, the Asian Civilisations Museum is open after-hours to introduce museum goers to the many facets of contemporary fashion. Discover Singapore fashion in the student curator tours or introduce the little ones to sustainability at the Renew Earth SweatShop in a collective finger knitting project to transform old T-shirt yarn into noble garments inspired by ACM’s Fashion and Textiles collection.

Never before seen outside of Japan, The Doraemon Exhibition Singapore 2022 makes its debut at the National Museum of Singapore. Presented by LEYOUKI, with support from the National Museum of Singapore, the exhibition will bring together a selection of contemporary artworks that reinterprets Doraemon in our changing world and showcases its cultural impact in contemporary history. The works will be presented together with original drawings from legendary manga artist, Fujiko F Fujio.

To satisfy the curiosity of the little ones, take them to the latest Omni-Theatre experience with Big Astronomy. In Big Astronomy, questions such as “Why are the stars so sparkly” and “why is the moon round on some days?” will finally find their answers. Witness the diverse collaboration of scientists that open up the minds of the kiddos to the expanse of the cosmos.

At the Crash Course Astronomy Workshop, participants will be able to learn about the planets and stars that make up our galaxy. They will be equipped with the knowledge and skill to explore the night sky and can test those skills immediately after the workshop at the Science Centre Observatory along with free telescope viewing!

Newly opened by NParks, the Fort Canning heritage gallery & spice garden is a historical ode to Singapore’s growth. Interactive exhibits in the heritage gallery aims to showcase Singapore’s history through archaeological findings and life-sized artworks. Head on to the spice garden to find more than 180 varieties of plants, where you can retrace the early days of Singapore as a hub for spice trading.

Bask in the fanfare of the Mid-Autumn Festival with a series of light installations at the Jurong Lake Gardens. Themed around the four seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter, the lantern displays are hand-crafted by artisans from China and are lined next to the water. On the lakeside field, expect to see monuments and landmarks from countries such as Thailand, Netherlands, Germany and Egypt. Other fringe activities including lantern riddles and arts performances will be available for free.
Admission is free. From now till 18 September 2022, 7pm to 11pm.
