7 Places To Spend Christmas With Your Family In Southeast Asia
1. Bali

Bali is always a good idea, but it’s around the festive season that Bali’s jubilant spirit really comes to life. This most famous of tropical island paradises has long drawn throngs of visitors and travellers to its shores. Whether seeking a vibrant island party, a soul-enriching spiritual journey or a revitalising yoga retreat, the Indonesian island hotspot really has something for everyone.

If you’re looking for a magical Christmas affair, then Alila Seminyak’s (above) Winter Wonderland Christmas dinner is perfect for you. A four-course traditional Christmas dinner awaits, accompanied by live music performances, carol singing and even a visit from Santa himself.

If, however, you’re after a more rejuvenating holiday experience, why not consider a yoga retreat at the beautiful Chandra Villas? Enjoy yoga by the pool, deliciously prepared healthy meals and drinks and even some pampering in-villa spa treatments. Best of all, Chandra Villas is currently offering a 15 per cent discount on any bookings in December.

2. Ngapali Beach, Myanmar

Over recent years, Myanmar has experienced greater interest from tourists. Currently the darling of South-east Asian travel and tourism, the time is now if you want to experience the magic of Myanmar before it becomes overrun by tourists.

One of the country’s most beloved and popular destinations is Ngapali beach, which is a magnificent stretch of coastline that has several resorts and hotels lining its idyllic shores, making it an ideal spot to enjoy Christmas this year.

Choose from any of the area’s hotels, such as Sandoway Resort, Amazing Ngapali Resort, Amara Ocean Resort and Amata Resort and Spa (above), and you’ll be guaranteed a Christmas vacation that you won’t forget.

Amazing Ngapali Resort is hosting a festive Christmas Eve affair at US$85 per person (adults). The evening will consist of a bountiful buffet dinner as well as a gift-giving and lucky draw ceremony by Santa himself.

3. Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Famed for being a snorkeller’s haven as well as a prime honeymooning destination, the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc is a popular holiday spot for both locals and tourists.

The glittering white sands and azure waters of the island’s incredible beaches will leave you wondering if you should stay forever.

Enjoy making your friends and family members in colder climates jealous by sending your Christmas sunbathing and snorkelling selfies. And for Christmas dinner, pick from one of the many candlelit beachside restaurants for a true South-east Asian holiday vibe.

4. Penang

Known for its rich cultural heritage, Penang is one of Malaysia’s most thriving tourist destinations and an excellent choice for travellers wanting to add some Malaysian flair to their 2016 Christmas.

Famed for its gorgeous stretches of popular beaches, Penang is a perfect spot for anyone wanting to end the year on a stress-free note.

Looking for an ideal way to enjoy the festive cheer in Penang? Located in the prime beach suburb of Batu Ferringhi, boutique hotel Lone Pine (above) is offering a series of delicious Christmas Eve and Christmas Day lunch and dinner buffets, starting at RM165 (US$37) per person. There will be free-flowing beverages, including wine and beer, as well as live music performances to get you into the holiday spirit.

5. Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

Keen on doing something a bit different to celebrate the festive spirit this year? If you find yourself in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, this festive season, be sure to enter the Santa Run taking place on December 18 at the Likas Stadium.

Participants wear custom-made Santa T-shirts and choose between an 11km single run or a 3.2km family run. Runners are also encouraged to bring a wrapped gift that will be donated to the Likas Hospital’s Children and Maternity Ward.

6. Bangkok, Thailand

A perennially popular tourist destination, Thailand offers some of the region’s best holidaying spots. Though a large proportion of visitors to the country choose to spend their time lazing on Thailand’s famous beaches, there’s so much more to experience in this incredible country than its picture-perfect tropical islands.

The Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort (above), located along the banks of Bangkok’s famous River of Kings, is offering visitors a wide range of Christmas-inspired activities and events. From a tree-decorating charity drive to a Christmas Eve moonlight river cruise along the Chao Phraya River, the stunning resort will make sure your festive season is truly memorable. Of course, they’re also planning some extravagant Christmas lunch and dinner options, too.

Another luxurious Bangkok hotel offering guests and visitors delicious holiday feasts is the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. With both Christmas Eve and Christmas day grand affairs at the various eateries within the hotel, you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice when deciding where to enjoy your holiday meals.

If, however, you’re looking for a decidedly romantic spot to celebrate Christmas this year, the famous The Gardens restaurant (above) between Sukhumvit Soi 59 & Soi 61, is an excellent option. Their four-course Christmas Eve dinner is perfect for couples.

7. Chiang Mai, Thailand
image

Steeped in rich Thai history and culture, Chiang Mai is one of northern Thailand’s most notable destinations with much to offer in terms of attractions. With over 300 religious temples in and around the city, your holiday will land up being an unforgettably spiritual experience.

Looking for a great spot to enjoy a Christmas meal in Chiang Mai? Serving a combination of traditional Thai and western cuisines, Dash! Restaurant and Bar (above) will make sure your 2016 Christmas is one to remember!
