If you only go to Alexandra in Bukit Merah when your living room needs a makeover, you’re missing out on all the other amazing stuff the area has to offer.
(That being said, we love the Swedish Food Market and the IKEA Restaurant!)
These are some of the other reasons why you should be heading down to the Alexandra area this weekend!
This four-storey mall opened in 1976 and has a unique layout (which can get a little confusing at times too) that’s different from other retail centres.
It’s a great place to shop for sports apparels and equipment at a bargain. There are a lot of stores offering similar items at this big “sports mall” so you might want to take your time to do a little price comparison.

No one usually wants to voluntarily visit a hospital but maybe you can make an exception for this one.
Alexandra Hospital has a nice little garden that offers some recluse from the city, and we hear nature societies and photographers often frequent this garden for their activities.
Established in the late 1930s, the hospital also has an interesting past relating to World War ll, so it’s definitely worth a visit for history buffs.

Don’t miss the outlet stores from brands like Pedro, Charles and Keith and Typo for some guilt-free shopping at slashed prices. There’s also a Japanese food mart and plenty of Japanese restaurants too.

The newly revamped hawker centre has been around since the 1970s and houses more than a hundred food stalls. It’s often listed as one of the best food entres in Singapore so you definitely want to hit this for some delicious authentic local fare, especially if you love fried Hokkien prawn noodles.
Block 6 Jalan Bukit Merah
Nestled between a housing estate and business buildings is a long stretch of greenery that was one a part of the KTM-Alexandra line.
The railway sideline served the Archipelago Brewery Company and today, there is a little train-themed playground in the park for kids aged two to five, as a reminde of its history. Bigger kids can enjoy a bigger woodland-themed playground not too far away.
Located opposite Alexandra Village Industrial Estate lies an upscale coffeeshop where you can get yummy German food, seafood, burgers, cake donuts and draft beers.
IIt can get pretty crowded especially on weekends so reservations are strongly encouraged for a unique dining experience.

The new mall is still pretty quiet currently but there are already plenty of places here to get your food fix. Head to The Bakehouse for some pizzas, pastas, sadnwiches and pastries, or get your fill of ramen at Otoko Ramen.
In the mood for Western food and burgers? Alibabar Dining Cafe Bar is the place for you. Indian food? Yummy Punjaby and Master Prata will satisfy that craving.
